As I start my diabetes journey, I was wondering if any of you used any apps to monitor your carb intake? I used to use My Fitness Pal and have just gone back on but unless I pay you can’t see carb amounts now, also the nhs app is basic and doesn’t log anything more than calories.
Nutracheck works well for me. Can monitor all - Carbs, cals, protein, fat etc and has a huge database of foods. It's paid for, but good savings can be made with an annual subscription. You can get a free 7-day trial to see if it suits
The NutraCheck app only is £29.99 for a 1 year membership, monitors cals and carbs and gives you access to the Forum. It's more comprehensive, and therefore more expensive if you want web access as well
Thank you for your help. I am willing to pay for apps and nutracheck is more affordable at £30 for the year rather than the £15.99 a month for My Fitness Pal. Will definitely give this a trial.
I have 6 pages in a small notebook with the carb content of various veges and berries listed - If it is not on the list then I don't eat it, if it as the top end (approaching 10 percent) then I am cautious, other wise I find that any combination of reasonable portions is under my daily maximum of 40 gm of carbs.
It keeps things simple and sustainable.
I use nutracheck. I think you can use it if you don’t pay, but just to look up carbs as you can only add a couple things a day if on the free version (might want to check this as it was a while ago)
It’s uk based, has pictures to look things up more easily, and has everything in it so I find it worth the money. There’s usually a free 7 day trial though

I just bought a book called Carb and Calorie counter (supported by Diabetes UK it says). That has an app too I can’t remember the cost now. Personally I’m not quite ready to use an app but the book is very good. It has a free version but only has about 1% of access to the data.
