Anyone working towards anything at the moment?

I just found myself absent-mindedly about diabetes (or other health-metric) targets.

Over the years I’ve found it has helped me to set goals every once in a while. Perhaps in terms of time in range, weight loss, reducing the amount of time spent below 4.0, units of alcohol consumed…

At the moment I confess I’m mostly just pootling along. But I know that when I’m trying to effect change, setting definite, measurable, and achievable goals can be a really helpful strategy. And it can really help to share them with others, as it keeps you accountable, and allows folks to offer you encouragement and support.
If you are actively working towards a specific goal, perhaps you’d like to share it here, how that is going, and what you are doing to try to achieve that. 🙂

I have been pootling along too, for many years it seems!

Life is short, I've recently realised, and I don't want to spend it doing the same things day after day. I want to feel more 'alive' so I am trying to spend more time being active outside - maybe some nice walks or time with family - and less time on my phone, which I am guilty of scrolling through rather than doing anything productive 😳
I have deleted social media / games from my phone with the intention of using it purely for communication, figuring out how to get places, and as a camera. But find myself bored in the evenings. I need to get the crochet out maybe (and actually learn to do it!)

I think I am aiming for one walk / activity per day, and only using the phone when necessary.

A target needs to be realistic and achievable

At the minute my main target is increasing exercise........i have a route i do....when i started i could do a 3rd of a circuit......now i can do 2 circuits.....target is 3 circuits in 3 months time.......4 circuits by september

I made a New Year's Resolution to increase the number of lengths I do during my twice-a-week visits to the pool from 20 to 30, with a target date of Easter. I'm up to 24 each visit already. I also decided to reduce the carbs in my breakfast by ditching my usual single Weetabix and sprinkling crushed walnuts or pecans over my berries and Greek yogurt instead. So far so good, and it seems more filling.

My target is getting full mobility of my arm which I broke in the summer.
I can now bend it all the way but it is far from straight.
The restricted movement has also affected my shoulder so I cannot do a full stretch.

I am maintaining my physio exercises and seeing enough improvement to be back on the climbing wall but I cannot stretch and pull myself up by that arm so I am not climbing at the same standard as previously and only doing top-rope climbs so I do not have to hold myself if I slip.

I have no date for my goal because I keep being told I just need to persevere.

have a couple of targets
stop using the wheelchair (only used it once in last 3 weeks
start standing up for myself with medical people ie GP etc
stand up for my rights
to take good care of my diabetic health and maybe one day stop the insulin or would be happy with reducing it
to live life to the full and accept what it thows at me
TO BE HAPPY

Hopefully get and keep my A1c below 48, lose a few more kilos and increase my exercise now that I'm not on the move at work three days a week. I was racking up 12000 steps in a shift, so I'm aiming for 10000 a day now, plus time on the rowing machine.
Currently Libre is predicting an A1c of 53, I know it's not totally accurate but it's a lot better than the 87 I had in October!

Also non D related, carry on improving my Turkish, I have got to B2 level with grammar and written assignments but my speaking is much weaker than that.

Having just had my latest hba1c through, my goal is to stop eating rubbish! Crept up to 41 from 39. Since another point will put me into pre-diabetic range I need to seriously return to the old and trusted methods which I know work. Going to the christmas markets in Germany was a big mistake as I couldn't resist all the gingerbread. Then I had Christmas and the January blues where it's easier to stop walking early and go home for a biscuit instead of pushing on to 20k steps.
I know the lighter nights and warmer weather will help, but it's down to me to make it happen. No more pootling along for me right now!

Getting my HbA1c below 48 and reducing my medication this year.
Start swimming again in the spring when it's a bit warmer. There are 2 outdoor heated pools within a ten minute drive from home.
Finish all my part completed craft projects this year.

Potential Diabetes wise:
Hba1c was 51. I have my next bloods on 27/2 and after 2 weeks using Dexcom One+, according to the Hba1c calculator thingy on Diabetes UK it's looking like I should have brought it down to 39.5 so fingers are mega crossed as I admit due to tweaking my back, I've been a little lax over the last week.
Eye on the prize for that and being better from tomorrow.

Not really concentrating on much other than that til I know what's going on 🙂

I don’t really set diabetes goals. I find it focuses my mind on it - and not in a good way. It can also be very frustrating when something beyond your control messes things up.

Non-diabetes goal is to get more sleep. I’m so busy during the day, I tend to sit and scroll/read/stare into space to unwind, then go to bed too late and regret it when I have to get up before 6am the next day.

My goal remains the one from last time, get my HbA1c down to less than 42 and maintaining that without the help of medication or supplements. Currently down to 47 and 1 x metformin/day so still a little further to go. If either get my appt for review pt II to happen I'll know better where I am.

Also need to submit my German tax return so I can get the refund to allow me to submit my UK tax return and pay the bill.

As I am still partway through the T2D pathway monitored programme, my goals/aims are:
To maintain a low BG level and low (eg: (normal" or non diabetic HbA1c range).
To maintain weight loss, and ideally lose a bit more weight (another 5kg would be good, but 10kg would be better).
To maintain my healthier eating regime, eg: low carb.
To maintain my healthier lifestyle generally, eg: more exercise.
To lower my cholesterol level (currently still slightly high).
To lower my blood pressure, (currently still on BP meds).
To NOT stress about it too much if possible.
😎

I’m trying to keep my time in range above 80% as that keeps my HbA1c ok and is just about achievable ‘most’ days with HCL.

When diabetes is in its box I’m learning Welsh & Norwegian online after my DNA analysis came back as 98% Welsh & 2% Scandinavian. I care for my Mum & she speaks quite a lot of Welsh so I’m also learning from her- hope she’s not teaching me swear words! I’m finding Welsh more difficult than Norwegian.

Other than that pootling on mode deployed!

I started to learn Welsh when my sister had her kids as their Dad is from Anglesey, fluent and they were both born in Wales but wow is it hard!

Started Danish and Swedish because of my DNA results and they're so much easier to grasp :D

I’m working towards losing weight, started a new approach this year, no dramatic results yet but it’s not aimed as quick loss anyway. Also still working on becoming fully ambidextrous, there’s some things I just still don’t feel as fluent in

Dw i'n siarad Cymraeg (tipyn bach!)
Maybe we could create a Cymraeg thread and practise together!! 🙂
Can't help with Scandinavian though, unfortunately! Sounds like a fascinating language. Good luck with it all!

I was at University (many moons ago now) and had a housemate who is Welsh and he taught me a few phrases There is a phrase that you can ask Alexa to say in Welsh which is amusing (Google it)

I am currently working on finding a new job (was made redundant at the end of last year)

No specific Diabetes goals (was trying to get to an HbA1c of 58 so I qualify for HCL but failed miserably as my last one was 44 a week ago - JOKE BTW - I was very pleased with the result)

And if you do try out the Alexa thing, turn the volume down so as not to upset anyone
