Anyone find things like youtube helpful or harmful?

What if you read two books and they have opposing views on the same subject? Seriously, there's a bunch of medical professionals (some of whom have books out by reputable publishers) that have opposing views on the subject of diabetes and its cure. How do you square that circle? I'm listening to both sides and trying to identify any biases I'm seeing, but its made harder in general because both sides seem to have some monetary gain to be had (even if its more book sales).

I don't care much about books, partly just for this reason; prefer papers by academics and scientists working for govt. There will still be biases, even if not directly tied to $$$, but it filters out some noise.

Basically: if the evidence is strong enough, it will come through (eventually) even if you filter out a lot of stuff, because it will be recognised and repeated by the scientific community. If it's just some small group pushing a message which doesn't get recognised and repeated by the broad community, it's probably c**p.

Very interesting post. When I was first diagnosed I came here first and then YouTube. There were so many points of view on the tube that I started to get confused. And then I started reading research articles and well, the big words confused me more! So, I finally decided to live by my glucose monitor. Best thing I could have done. Felt better, stronger, lowered my BP & cholesterol without even trying. Sometimes it's about looking at things more simply and trying to drown out all the 'noise' out there. And the biggest thing to remember is that we are all different. What works for me may not work for you. Good luck on your journey x

N.B. Have to admit that Beat Diabetes is one of the YouTube places to visit, if only because the pastor puts things more simply.

In that case zoombapup, you treat both with caution since neither is likely to be wholly right or even wholly wrong. Both opinions will have strengths and both will have weaknesses. What you will most likely find is that the more extreme the point of view put forward, the smaller the population it is appropriate for. What it tells you is that the best way of looking at the issue lies somewhere between the extremes.

Having worked with Doctors for 40 years, they in person have differnt views even in the same specialties .

When presented with an argument it is important to decide how much weight to give it. Is it almost certainly correct or just a load of rubbish, or somewhere in the middle.

All I am saying is that one would give more weigh to an argument backed by a pubisher that that to an unsupported view expressed on the net.

When two views differ it is a matter oi deciding which one best holds water.

Incedentally, I would dismiss out of hand any who claimed a cure for diabetes there is none!
