Relationship to Diabetes
At risk of diabetes
Just spotted this bread in the local Sainsbury's: https://www.warburtons.co.uk/products/bread/plant-power-700g/

It looks interesting, with pulses and grains added. Tastes good. Seems to be new, but maybe I've just not spotted it before.

I hover just below the pre-diabetes threshold, so I try to look for bread that is less likely to tip me over, but I'm not as expert as many on this forum, so interested to hear what others think.

According to the nutrition information it's 17.6g of carbohydrate per slice, which is not much different to regular wholemeal bread.

Thanks. Might the pulses and seeds moderate the effect of the carbs?
Some people find that pulses can increase blood glucose more than you would think from the amount of carbs they are.
You would only know if it is better for you by testing the effect on blood glucose compared to a similar sized slice of other bread.
It is more like protein and healthy fats which can help rather than something else which is also carbs.

It's true that pulses and seeds are said to help decrease the effect of carbs on blood sugar but so are whole grains, which is why we are advised to switch to wholegrain varieties of bread, pasta, rice and cereals. If you choose to eat bread the one you've mentioned is as good a choice as any other wholegrain bread but, as is often said on here, carbs are carbs. Pulses and seeds might moderate the effect but I suspect the effect might be moderate.

Thanks, all. I find that bread is the hardest thing to cut out, so I'm always looking for better options!

400g loaves have fewer carbs per slice than the 800g ones, as long as you don't mind the smaller slices, but I've started to share my wife's GF bread, which has even fewer.

Your not alone there , Nothing quite gives you that bite.

I agree. That's why the BLT I sometimes have at our favourite cafe tastes so much better than the one I make at home. Fortunately it's only if we're in town at lunchtime on a weekend.

We use this bread, and the Warburtons 21 bread, because it is easier for me to swallow than other breads. We had been using another Warburtons seedy load, but they stopped making it earlier this year .... plus it is also very tasty
