Hi

Just wondering of anyone had simila rissues to me. A few months diagnosed.

Working hard to loose weight and low carb and low cal. bloods dropped a lot over las t few weeks.

Been to podiatrist and checks are ok, annoyance now is feet are always feel quite cold and to touch its quite unnerving. Anyone had this and did ti go away. im hoping it will resolve away as things settle, i had though neuroropathy would take yrs to get at the start but maybe im wrong. I may have had diabetes 6 months to a year before recent diagnosis.

Could it be related to being in calorie deficit if you're trying consciously to lose weight?

I get very cold hands and feet hate it especially at night . Have resorted to wearing socks in bed . I have lost a lot of weight and I put it down to the massive loss of padding

yeh hope so and would make sense in terms of timelines with diet etc.

Ill be eating bit more over next few weeks so hopefully will warm up in time for summer@)

Sorry to hear you are suffering with cold feet @D2PAUL

Were your pulses checked by the podiatrist? Could it be a circulation thing?

can i ask if any of you are taking beta blockers? if so they are known to cause coldness but also there are also other medical conditions which can cause it.

i started a beta blocker for BET and wasn't long before my feet, legs, arms and hands got affected. i have gotten some kind of used to it but at the same time not. the trouble is if i stop the beta blocker the BET would just get worse.

it is a benign condition similar to Parkinson's the beta blocker is needed to help with the condition but the downside is the coldness which i am not keen on. there is an alternative med but the side effects are horrendous not even a route to consider.

Hi there Paul - I'm glad you've had the podiatrist check your feet out, as that helps discount those as the cause.

Have you had a chat with your GP about this? It could easily be your weightloss, although I can't imagine your feet would be where you lost most padding. That said, if you are losing weight fast, it could be your body is thinking about heading for starvation mode, to preserve energy.

In your shoes, I might be inclined to ask my Doc to check things over, and have some blood done. I'd want the bloods to include checking my thyroid gland function, as feeling extreme cold is often a symptom the thyroid could be getting sluggish.

Has your thyroid function been checked?

Thanks @D2PAUL for starting this interesting thread.
I recently got what a podiatrist diagnosed as chilblains and my feet and hands are often cold. Podiatrist confirmed my pulse and tactile sense OK on my feet.
Was not aware that cold feet can be symptom of calorie shortage or thyroid function.
Believe I'm underweight after a dalliance with Metformin and struggling to put weight back on while jousting with T2 over blood glucose levels.
My thyroid function results are habitually OK so maybe it's the calorie balance I need to address. More plant fats and proteins?
Hope you find balance with warmer feet. @D2PAUL !
PS Podiatrist gave me some foot warming cream which seems to have helped the chilblains.

it was borderline low thyroid on initial test nearly 3 months ago

im convinced it may now be lower sinc e last 12 weeks so ill ask for a new thyroid panel as it would match my issues or i could be super unlucky to be resetting foot issues so early on sigh

Thanks Paul

yes i have just requested full bloods liver, thyroid, kidney, cholesterol and hbac1 which is nearly 12 weeks since last so good timing.

I hope can resolve it as its not very comfortable and is annoying as i generally fgeel much better so its a constant reminder of the diabetes.

I always feel it is important to remind ourselves that not everything tracks back to diabetes, even where timing could make it easy to form a link.

My thyroid failed a considerable time ago, and one thing I can remember very clearly is the feeling of warmth in my hands and feet on about the third day of taking Thyroxine. It was like being in a warm bath.
Low thyroid can usually be seen in the mirror - short eyebrows, or rather sparse ones.
