Any fellow Charcot foot people out there?

I know Charcot foot is thankfully a rare complication of diabetes. I've only seen it discussed a few times in my time on here but I just wanted to find out if there is anyone out there who reads the forum and is living with the difficulties of Charcot foot. If there is please say hello.

I'm having a seriously difficult time with this unforgiving complication but don't know anyone else with it.

It's fine if no one replies to this ,I know it is still pretty uncommon but I just wanted to ask. 🙂

There was a man in the Other Class (I can't remember the name of it now, not Daphne, the type 2 class) but he seemed notoriously non compliant. But I'm afraid that's all I know, sorry.

Hi Flower, I’m sorry you’ve hit a rough/er patch and it’s tough having a more unusual condition because I know it helps to share the load with people experiencing similar issues.
I’m wondering if there’s any dedicated online forums for Charcot foot? I did see an American one.

Sometimes it’s hard to be a hero but you do much better than most! However it’s ok to say I’m pig sick of this! 😡

Aw Flower so sorry you're having a rough time of it ~ you're usually very upbeat about your health issues ~ but, it is allowed to feel as you do today and it's ok to have off days. You are human after all!🙂 I hope you find someone to talk with who has the same condition as yourself, whether it be on this forum, or another. A problem shared is a problem halved🙂 Take care hun x

I also have Charcots, currently only affecting my right foot.
Not an ideal diagnosis as my job requires me to be on my feet for up to 12 hours a day!
I've been struggling to cope for 2 years now, in and out of casts. My Charcots was missed diagnosed and was told my symptoms were just due to injury. i was advised to rest and cold compress - safe to say they finally sent me for a X-ray/MRI after 5 weeks of battling with the doctors that it was a more than an injury.
I'm quite lucky in the fact that my foot has not started to take the bow shape, its just is wide due to bunion area - extremely painful and difficult.
Recently spent weeks in hospital due to bone infection due to ulcer from charcots.
Awaiting to see surgeon to hopefully get some surgery, unfortunately I don't think my doctor feels too confident that everything will go well.
It's hard, and debilitating. I wish more people including doctors were aware of the condition.

Hello @KO1992 , thanks for answering my call! 🙂

I'm so sorry to hear of your problems with Charcot foot and ulcers. It is a horrible, painful complication to live with. I really hope you are able to have the surgery to try and improve things for you.. Has the treatment for osteomyelitis been successful, I really hope so.

Most of the cases I've read have been misdiagnoses. I was sent away from A and E with the diagnosis of a sprain having been told it was nothing to worry about and I would be better in a week or so- this was pre internet. 22 years later my one leg is still in a cast having remained a non union after 3 attempted ankle fusions and my other foot has had multiple ankle and foot fractures. My right foot and ankle collapsed giving me that bony bow outwards and a rocker where my arch should be and no ankle joint. My left foot has thankfully remained in shape but just keeps fracturing out of the blue.

Like you, I really hope Charcot is flagged up as something to consider and rule in/out when a diabetic patient turns up with a swollen hot foot and often no injury to cause it. I do think back and wish I'd even been aware of Charcot as a possibility. All I was told back in the 70's/80's was I might get foot problems. I was thinking along the lines of a blister not a full scale collapse of my bones and joints that would throw my life in a very disabling different direction.
