Does anyone have any advice for me? I have just rung my surgery to get an appointment with the practice diabetes nurse, I have been told you can't just make a routine appointment with them only reviews, rather annoying. I was told to make an appointment with my gp, she's fully booked for the next 2 weeks!

Anyway the few worries I have are these:
I have a bruiselike mark on the top of my left foot but it isn't a bruise (not sore or anything) in fact it looks like a blood vessel has burst under the skin. Is this anything to worry about?

I also have eczema between my toes on my right foot, very itchy and my little toe feels swollen.

I'm also needing to wee lots even though I'm not drinking much, and when I do go I don't do much.

Am I worrying about nothing?

I'd make an appointment with the GP. You might have cystitis. Needing to go to the loo lots and then not acutally weeing properly is a symptom. So you might need antibiotics for that. So, while you're there for that you can also ask about the eczema ( that might be athletes foot though, if between toes) and the "bruise" on your foot. None of these things seem to have anything to do with diabetes.

I think you have every right to ask to see the diabetic nurse but with several queries as you have he/she would probably refer you back to the doctor. Is there any chance of speaking to the nurse on the phone? It doesn't sound a very good system to me and I think I'd try again or possibly see another doctor in the meantime if this is possible.

Hope you soon get some answers. Take care.x

As I have had some not nice experiences with one or two of the other doctors I only tend to see one particular one now and she is very good, unfortunately she is fully booked for the next two weeks so thats thrown me out a bit and I don't know who I would see. All I really want is a bit of reassurance as this is all a first for me.

Is the bruise like mark increasing in size or just staying the same? I personally probably wouldn't worry much about it but I can't think what it might be. If it is getting bigger then I'd get an urgent appointment to check it out.

As for the weeing a lot, I would think perhaps a urine infection/kidney infection/cystitis but that's usually accompanied with an awful stinging and/or pain. I'd try to drink plenty of water to flush out any infection but would be inclined to get advice if this has come on suddenly, if it's been going on for ages then it can probably wait another 2 weeks.

The itchiness between toes could well be athletes foot and I personally would buy an over the counter treatment and see if it makes any difference. However none of what I have said is advice for you, it is just my own inclination and only you can decide whether you need to see someone more urgently. The longer you worry the worse it is, I've done this plenty of times. Hope you manage to find a suitable way forward with all this. xx

Oh sorry, I didn't realise it was the doctor you couldn't see for 2 weeks. I don't know what to suggest then.

i know how you feel, I always ask for the same docotor at our practice too. Do you feel you can wait 2 weeks to see your favourite? If yes, then do that. If not, maybe you need to bite the bullet and make an appointment with one of the other 2.

Flutterby -I've had cystitis for years and not always with pain.

i have had a lot of trouble with urine infections/cystisis in the last few years, i find cranberry juice or cranberry juice tablets (as they don't have the sugar in) help to clear it up. it doesn;t work for everyone but i have found it really helps, you can also buy off the shelf treatments if you think it is that and you can't get to see a dr, still best to get checked out though, feel better soon

another thought, where i live you can get advice and some medicines from the pharmacist, might be worth having a chat with them, if they can't help it might help you get an appointment if you tell them you;ve seen the pharmacist who says you need an (urgent?!) appointment!

You poor thing, horrible to suffer with that so much. Always thought it was accompanied by stinging and/or pain. You learn something every day!

yes unfortunately, as a child, because I didn't drink enough. I had all sorts of test done without any real results. Then it suddenly went. I guess I started to drink more. I can't remember last time I needed antibiotics for a wee infection.

But I must admit that my first attack was extremely painful.

My friends daughter keeps getting sent home from school feeling poorly and it's simply because she doesn't drink enough. My friend has told her she must drink but it's hard going, just shows though the repercussions can be nasty.

I still have to make myself drink more on occasions. I have gone for a whole day and only had milk on cereal and maybe 1 to 2 glasses of water (I don't drink anything else)

elliebug - I didn't realise you could buy cranberry tablets! I didn't suggest the cranbery juice because of the sugar. Good thinking about going to see the pharmacist. We've done that on occasion. Shame on me not to think of that myself😱
