Anxious HbA1c 3 month review

My 2nd HbA1c test results/appointment is today and I am fretting... Which I know is silly as bloods were taken a week ago and what will be will be.

I know my BG readings are down, as is my weight. So there will be a difference to 3 months ago.

I'm trying not to think about it as it is making me feel anxious.

I know it's easy to say and difficult to do, but try not to be so anxious, and focus on something else for a few hours.
You sound as if you are doing brilliantly, and I'm sure the results will be OK.
Sometimes though we can dwell too much on the actual results - you know that you are doing the right things to help yourself.

I've just had to give myself a bit of a talking to this morning. Morning reading having ticked along at top end of 5's low 6 for ages shot up to 8 this morning, and I went into anxiety spin - until I saw last nights metformin tablet still on the table - Dahh!
Not so good really though as it shows that I am still dependant on the metformin, and I was hoping to ditch it eventually.
Anyway i maybe need to take my own advice, and not obsess on it all so, and shut the meter in the cupboard for a while!

I don't tend to worry about ifs and buts, I deal with things if and when they happen.
 
Please try not to worry. I think you are going to have a lovely surprise, you see the clue is staring me in my face, your BGs have gone down and you have lost weight, that means your Hb1ac has gone down, probably by a lot .

Please let us know how you get on.
 
Waiting with baited breath to hear result when you have a moment to let us know! You will certainly do better than me..... I went from 112 to 116 at my second test, despite my best efforts!!
I am certain that you are in line for a good result and look forward to celebrating it with you.

HbA1c Results, Happy.

Thanks to the amazing support of people on this forum, especially those who replied to my anxious thread this morning, which at 6.30 a.m I thought was on general board but it is in food forum. I was diagnosed in Dec. at 117. I went for my 3 month review after work today and made my DN's day...

@Toucan it is so easy to miss a dose isn't it?! I used to think - how could people possibly do that - and despite having daily pill boxes filled at the weekend I have missed due to working or forgetting to pack the pills for the day. It did make a temporary difference to BGs too which in a way was good because it proved that I needed the meds as well as low-carb eating to improve my diabetes.

The hardest lesson I have learnt since DX is sometimes, despite doing everything we can - diabetes gets the better of us... and sometimes it behaves. So relishing this victory at the start line but well aware that all I can do is try to stay in control as my organs age and try to process all the extra work they have to do.[/QUOTE]
 
@Ljc thanks for all your support and your confidence. Delighted with the result. I panicked because I read somewhere else on the forum a member who did all they could and still only had a very slight decrease in their HbA1c and I know how T2D has a mind of its own sometimes.
Wish I had realised I was posting my initial anxiety post on the wrong forum - sleepy 6 AM eyes! 🙂
 
Thanks @rebrascora sorry to hear that happened to you. It is definitely a marathon as people say and although I am celebrating I am having to resist every urge in my being to stay off the cake, biscuits and high carb foods. Fortunately I still have a little bit of weight to lose (although the BMI has just tipped into good balance), so that will keep me on plan for a while. Now need to lower cholesterol and am not sure how to do that. I think some of the Low Carb intake heightens it /cheese etc.

There is emerging evidence from researchers, that Diabetes is more a variation of conditions and they respond to differnt management.

There's still lots to learn.
 
Yes, and things can change. There was a phase a few years ago where it was being reported that they were finding new differnt genes related to Type 2 alone.
There is also research pointing to gut microbiome playing apart in conditions. That differnt people responses can be down to the individuals gut make up.
 
I agree with @grovesy , also some people dx with T2 turn out not to be , over the few years I’ve been on here we’ve spotted many
 
Hi @Neens - Sorry i havent been around (computer was in hospital! LOL - not with a virus, im happy to say. Like myself, just a bit worn out in places, but all fixed now)--- Im so pleased for you and your great HB1Aac result. You are an inspiration to others on how a little determination, education and focus can make huge strides. Well done and congratulations, i bet you are over the moon x

No need to apologise, sorry to hear you have been unwell @Tee G - glad you're all fixed now and home? I have been a little absent from the forum myself due to work schedule (which now very grateful for as the future months look unsettled and I am unsure what if any income may come).
I am still a little in shock. But thoroughly enjoyed phone calls to family - in complete contrast to the calls I struggled to make back in December!
I come from a family that fights back so I think it was natural instinct to want to do this but wasn't convinced I could. I have learnt a lot, there is still more to learn. My education course was cancelled (due next week) because of Coronavirus - makes sense to me but will have to wait longer for access to learning.

I am over the moon, I am struggling to find the words.

Also slightly happy to discover that a small banana one day and another the next day didn't affect my BG badly, although I may limit to 1 a week as they are sugary I have REALLY missed them and it would be lovely to have them back in my meal plan. I look forward to discovering what I can tolerate, but as still losing a little weight still saying no to cake and know I have to maintain this level of sensible to attempt staying beneath the threshold.
But yes, despite all that is happening in the world around me, I feel like I'm walking on air!
