Anyone's anxiety levels through the roof with the fear of getting the coronavirus or their family getting it?

Hi @Curly, welcome to the forum 🙂 Yes, I have been feeling a lot more anxious lately, which has the effect of triggering my asthma, which makes me more anxious :( I think part of the problem is that it is such blanket coverage everywhere it's almost impossible to escape. I'm trying to school myself to read a few good books and do other activities away from the TV and computer so I don't obsess about it all, which I have a tendency to do. So, just watching the news at specific times, and probably the press conferences.

I think it's largely a fear of the unknown. I'm reasonably fit and healthy, although obviously I have diabetes, asthma and I'm over 60, plus I take tablets for high blood pressure which are all additional risk factors.

How about you? Have you been diagnosed long, and are you on any medication? How are things going for you generally? Please feel free to ask any questions you may have and we will be more than happy to help out 🙂

Hi thanks for your reply. I have been diagnosed about 16 years, I take tablets and a weekly injection. I work in GP surgery so I am surrounded by this every minute of every day I also suffer with chronic anxiety in relation to my familys health. My fear is not about me getting it but about my family members getting it.

Hi @Curly I agree with Northerner about finding activities to take your mind off things like reading a good book or catching up on all those DVDs and TV you’ve been meaning to watch. I also find keeping busy and thinking about things logically helps - ie have hygiene systems up and running, sort the kitchen cupboards, etc, etc.

If you’re feeling really anxious, then I recommend looking at Mindfulness. A few minutes mental break for your racing mind can do wonders.

Hi Curly, me too ! I raised a post last week about my general nervousness, however I have started to accept things rather than sit around in denial or at worst sending myself nutty due to it happening. The what will be approach has helped, soothing myself around good people and non-triggering practical ideas/people has been helpful too. I am feeling a little lethargic today due to acceptance but other than that I am working from home, adapting and getting on with things.

https://www.tenpercent.com/coronavirussanityguide - may I recommend this, the podcast on the page was excellent too. It helped me with perspectives, reactions and indeed mindfulness.

Remember and take heart from this, we are all in this together and working through these issues together - the uncertain aspects of our future are anxiety inducing but natural. Feel empowered that this will pass and you can work on yourself through each bridge you come towards. Spread love.

Hello @Curly, welcome to the forum. 🙂

I'm not worried for me and my mother who I live with, as I think we've had it, but I'm worried in case my son gets it. His health is dire with lots of undiagnosed stuff. I have told him to self-isolate which will be easy for him and I'll take him a bag of shopping down weekly and leave it on his step.

I'm more worried about all the stuff that goes with it, the breakdown of civilisation and every man for himself syndrome. :(

Hi, I suffer with severe anxiety and contamination OCD, I'm petrified and my anxiety is extremely high! I'm stressed, worried and scared!

I'm with you Nikki. Except I didn't have contamination OCD but I sure do now. I have been in an state of panic since January. I wish I could calm down but I keep fretting about contamination and what I think is sure to happen if I get it.

I’m with grovesy on this one. I take each day as it comes. If I didn’t, I’d be a nervous wreck. That’s not to belittle those with anxiety disorders, mind. I’m self isolating, which is about all I can do. I don’t fear coronavirus. I didn’t fear SARS, which was a much more serious disease.

Do not forget that this is a mild illness for the vast majority. A cough, bit of a fever, and you feel rough. That applies diabetic or not. If you have asthma, it can trigger that, or if you smoke you've only yourself to blame.

And another point - there are already cornaviruses circulating all around us. They are one of the causes of the common cold. This just a new one we’ll have to get used to.

I've worried because although I've recegently got my blood surgars down, I'm overweight and have sleep apnea although this is controlled. I'm a social smoker only when I go out for a drink which isn't often.

I have high blood pressure which I have had for 15 years or more. Even though I have lost 4 stone it just doesn't come down. This virus is really not helping.

I Casablanca, have you tried excercising this may help bring your BP down? Also are you taking BP medication I recently had high BP was already on lisinopril 20mg and recently had this increased I'm now on 30mg and my BP has decreased considerably, I feel completely different.

Hi Kiwi. I was rubbish for exercise but I am trying to do some. I did get an referral to join the gym but I'm too scared to go now. I am trying a workout on my exercise bike but I find it so dull.

I am on 3 different types of tablet. It does come down acceptably now if I can relax, but lately I am struggling. I will try and step up the exercise though. Thank you.

I find an exercise bike dull, even watching TV. I had a knee replacement 3 years ago , and I use because it helps my knee.

Just think of the benefits it will bring you maybe put some music on that makes you want to move. Good luck!
