Hallo recently I have decided to help myself and have referred myself via the GP for therepy.During the assessment with the therepist it was half agreeded with the mental health worker (she needs to confirm with her boss) that I would start on CBT therapy and Anti-d's.
While I am waiting for the CBT therapy to start (waiting lists etc) it was suggested that I go on the tablets in the mean time. My questions are 1) Does anyone know ones that I could research myself before my appointment on Wed 2) Do they affect blood sugers etc
And any other advice that you think would help would be appreciated as I have not been on them before 🙂 thanx

Hi Vanessa, sorry dont know anything about that kind of stuff. Like you i like to do reasearch before. Really good luck 😉

Im on a mild anti depressant and they didnt have any effect on my bloodsugars, but my GP did warn me the AD could make my bloodsugars go up and down!
Xx

Thanks Hobie and Claire I just want to be prepared, its something that I need to do but I am glad I get to do therepy and tablets x

It will make you so much more positive.. it did me :D I still have a downer day now and again but who dosent 🙂 Can always message me! We are all in this together...A good quote I found today is "God gives his hardest battles to his strongest soldiers"

There are so many Anti-D's and so many variables as to who they will suit and who not, it would be impossible to say try this one.

eg Citalopram dealt with my panic attacks excellently and made me sleep like I'd been felled with a pole-axe thank you, but they made one of my step daughters 'antsy'. Couldn't be still.

I was on a few along the way - Fluoxetine did nowt - yet a mate swears by it. Sertraline did nowt either, but suits our daughter ....

See what I mean?

I should start if I were you, because it'll take several weeks - probably a month plus, to know if it's helping or not. You sometimes have to kiss a number of frogs to find one (or more) that does the trick for you.

I resisted drugs for ages, then once I found 'the one' I started to realise just how daft I'd been not to accept the help before I got really ill.

Good luck !

Hi,

I would look around SSRI anti-depressants to research - such as Citalopram, Fluoxetine, Sertraline - as it is supposed to be best practice to prescribe this type of anti-depressant in the first instance ( Maudsley prescribing guidelines) As TW suggests it's not one size fits all for response rates to these meds and you will need patience as can take 4-6 weeks to feel full effect, and it may be that you only gain some benefit by that stage and the dose will need increasing to further improve.

With some of these meds you may need to have BP, ECG and other routine bloods done prior to commencing depending on medical history and age, and repeated again 6 monthly or so.

I don't think they have a direct impact on BG's but then being low in mood and anxious could in terms of a change in normal behaviour, appetite, motivation to look after self etc. So get all the help you deserve IMO 🙂

Thanks trophy and Hanmillmum I just need to change this year and I really hope both the CBT and tablets contribute in helping me bring about that change, as hating yourself and your life for 20 odd years is frustrating its def time to move my life on thats for sure ! will def look into those anti d's and fingers crossed the GP will be helpful on Wed and who knows in 6 weeks everything will be on the up ! Or I be trying my next frog lol 🙂 thankyou all again x

Hi - When I was first on anti-depressants (2002 - 2006) I was on seroxat. When I was on the 30mg dose, it numbed me. Felt no anxiety just slept for Britain and gained weight in the process. This was before I was diagnosed with diabetes. Quite recently, last year I briefly went on sertraline - it didn't affect my blood sugar. It might be an idea to look up on a trusted website (NHS among others) for the effect of various anti-depressants. Good luck with the CBT. I got a book on it in 2011 and it helped me a bit. I regularly go for core process therapy and it has helped me tenfold. good luck 🙂
