So today I saw dn after high readings as most of you no, I have now been put on max gliclazide from 80mg once a day to 160mg twice a day plus 750mg metformin twice a day...I gotta be honest im a bit peed off.....she did not tell me about the in and out's about the drug considering I was put on this drug over the phone one week ago and even then no information given to me then..all she told me was to check bloods morning and evening and if I feel odd to check.....oh and before I drive etc....that's fine but no advise to what a hypo is or what to do if I have one, if it was not for all of you out there I would be in the dark! it really shows how important forums like this really help....plus now I am taking high dose meds and am quite frankly fed up....it's like well take this and see how you go :( more tabs more side effects....within 2 weeks I have gone from 500mg metformin to lots of high dose tabs......I go back in august.....is this really how it will be from now on.....more meds etc.....I have lost even more weight too...good yes, but makes me wonder...diabetes does rule my life now...BIG time...

Hope fully you will begin to feel better about things once you start getting regular, good levels. The sort of high levels you have been having will also have had an effect on your mood. Also, it's possible that the high levels have contributed to the weight loss as your body will have been burning fat and protein for energy, being unable to use the glucose in your blood.

Try not to let it get you down Ant, instead try to look on the bright side that there are medications available these days which can help (I know it's not easy to think this way when you have just had a big hike in meds :() Don't forget, there is a slow-release version of metformin if the side-effects of the standard type become too much.

In many ways life was much simpler for me than many Type 2s - my body ran short of insulin, I injected it and things were good - no seemingly endless progression from one set of meds to another!

Take care, and take jelly babies everywhere - they're medicine now as well! 🙂

Hopefully the doses that you are on now will work for you and bring your numbers down such that you feel better (and any side effects wear off).

But if your numbers still are not coming down in a few days then you will probably want to give her another call because the gliclazide does absolutely nothing for you if you happen to be a Type 1.

I guess it is a lot to take on board alan.....so much has happened in such a short time......hypos worry me like the next person...never had a real one....I work on boats!! next to water😱 scares the s*** out of me I feel odd splash....my misses is worried.....just feel lost at the mo....it's like diabetes has taken a different direcetion...I no there are worse peeps out there...just need to get used to it I guess....and I did buy some jelly babies today and told wife DO NOT go near...there her fav lol....🙄

If you have a perfect marriage, your wife will like the flavours that you don't! :D

I hope you show a marked improvement very quickly.

LOL.....she loves em all 😉...cheers for support buddy 🙂

Hope things improve for you very soon. 🙂

Hope the new dose works. As you have been so high and going off what I was like I would expect you to have false hypos, ie confusion, shakes, sweating etc, if you feel anything like this test you BS as your meds have jumped from virtually nothing to a lot in a short time, as could be a false or genuine hypo.

Also test before bed, to make sure your high enough to go through the night. If you wake up in the night I would test again to be safe.

As already mentioned have your jelly babies or other sweats to hand.

Looks like back to the docs again for me, my BS now hitting new peaks 12.1, I am alright in morning, lunch time and bed time, but before and after tea is becoming a right pain. On top of that now had a allergic reaction, itching like mad and skin is peeling off my fingers. :(

Crikey pav I hope you get yourself sorted out as well!

Spoke to doc and seen a specialist nurse this morning. Doc at the moment doc says overall picture is good and brought forward the annual HbA1c test to Oct. I will be keeping an eye on the BS as I don't want it in the 12's again, want to keep it at the most in signal figures preferable below 8.5.

Specialist, nurse has issued new prescriptions for a fungi infection under the arms (it itches like hell :( ), I thought it was the usual allergy to scented sprays :(. Also have a dermatitis on the hands, which previous doctors have ignored and just said put up with it :( . Now on a steroid cream and another cream to combat the damage.

The joys of being a diabetic, and now paying the consequences for BS going high earlier this year. On very good terms with the chemists, who are very nice eye candy :D

Steroids might raise your levels a bit pav - hopefully the dermatitis will clear up soon🙂

I can tell you that when i asked about having hypos at the time of my diagnosis the doctor said to me that metformin prevents them happening (words to that effect). I did some careful reading up about them and it does seem that this is the case according to the blurb. There's a very good wikipedia page about them which i re-visit from time to time to remind me what it's all about. It states about metformin: ".. is associated with less weight gain and fewer hypoglycaemic attacks than are insulin and sulphonylureas"

Hi Pav 🙂

I have contact dermatitis as have a steel allergy and it's a right pain! so I used to have steriod creams for it but as it's unavoidable to not touch steel at all it was always re-reacting and got sick of using steroid cream on it (I hate the idea of them!)

So basically the point of this is ... I use flexitol hand balm - best thing I have found for keeping it in check - it might be worth you trying for your dermatitis 🙂 (or any cream which contains urea - i think that's the bit that works so well 🙂) The foot one is also awesome if you suffer with dry skin :D

Thanks shambles, its worth trying, I do suffer from dry skin and now have E45 on repeat prescription.

please try e45 for the dermo cos I went on the steroid stuff for years,,keep applying intwo finger amounts through the evening for a week and I promise it will make a difference..if it takes two weeks carry on'''my hands were falling apart till I did this..good luck

There not really a problem, just one thing after another, and being without good support, then giving up on certain things after the docs not helping. Like the dermatitis, said several times about the trouble.

Also another example, I can be in extreme pain and can't put weight on my knee, used to happen once in a while, after a few years can't remember how many finally was sent for an xray to find the joint is full of arthritis. 😡

I am still luckier than a lot of others, as still got my driving licence and generally well.

burnsyboy I have just got E45 added to my repeat due to dry skin cracking on my feet, another use for it then. 🙂

Looks like you got this spot on, 9.9 before tea, now 10.3 2 hours after and that was food that normally keeps me lower 2 hours after a meal. Will have to see what bed time and the morning brings me. :(
