Came as a bit of a shock to be told that I am prediabetic and that my cholesterol is slightly high.
As I guess most people do, I looked for immediate actions to deal with the issues.
Lose weight, exercise, diet.
At 6 ft and 74kg (BMI of 22), I’m not exactly overweight. I walk briskly with the dog for around 8 miles a day, cycle, do some weight training, and my diet is pretty good. Plenty of veg, certainly not a pie and pasta person, don’t drink much alcohol, no beer, and limit red meat. The only weakness is cheese, but again, I don’t go overboard with it.
The HbA1c test was performed as a result of an optician saying that a cataract had developed a little faster. Had I had steroids or did I have diabetes? No chance of that, I thought, but did the sensible thing and asked the GP for a test.
I guess I’ll just lurk on this site, looking for some inspiration. With the HbA1c test being affected by sugar levels over the last 8-12 weeks, I guess the first thing to do will be to get another test in three months to see if this is developing.
