Hi, Today in London was a wee bit hot, not good if you are traipsing down the West End. Felt better when I got to Marble Arch, the night cool air. Slowly but surely I am getting to grips with this. Only thing is I make sure I am out of the house more. It sucks not working at the mo, might try to do voluntary work. I would say I am in the early acceptance stage. All my self-help books I have banished them to the furthest point of my cupboard. i really dont need any of that now. I have found that those books, especially the one concerning dealing with anxiety /depression put ideas in your head. I preferred going to Hammersmith the previous day - much less people, more space. Am I being overly cautious in terms of sugary things, considering, I gave up up sugar in tea/coffee years ago. The only thing I put in my breakfast is one spoonful of honey, I just drink only water and ocassionly the flavoured water. I wont touch a fizzy drink at all. As I go out a lot it's mainly sandwiches after checking they are below the 5g sugar range. Sometimes I feel to just PIG OUT on........Mixed Vegetables just to see what would happen.......If this is too much, please tell me

i dont eat/drink anything sugary, it is poison. honey, wont touch it now, sandwiches, wont touch them either. mixed vegetables i eat loads of.

diabetes is not all about sugar, carbs turn into sugar too, if you have a bg meter you should know this. if you havent got one, get one asap. test after each meal, above 8 is not acceptable.
carbs such as bread rice potatoes pasta etc i avoid as much as possible. 'low carbing' is quite an good conversation starter, so some of your own research woudlnt go amiss.😉

I was totally ruthless in the first few months after my diagnosis, banishing all sugary things from the cupboards. After a while and with a lot more experience and knowledge I learned to relax a little 🙂 I think it's perfectly natural to be very focussed in the beginning, but as you become used to managing things you will find that the occasional treat satisfies the cravings - or you may even discover that the things you thought you wanted no longer appeal. My palate has changed significantly since diagnosis and it really surprised me 🙂

Talking about low carbs, I was advised to check out the glycaemic index for foods and look for higher protein foods. I was going to get the Patrick Holford book, however he has got such bad press regarding his claims. I got a book by Dr Richard K Berstein - seemed to have misplaced it somewhere. A BG meter seems like a very good idea. Will ask my GP. To go totally off track I am watching my favourite cartoon - Hong Kong Phooey - yep waay back in the 70s..🙂
