Annual Review

My annual review is carried out at the surgery by a nursing assistant not a trained nurse. The bloods are taken at the same time so there’s no recent Hba1c to discuss. I’ve told them it seems to be a ridiculous system because any issues the bloods reveal have to be then addressed by the GP. Surely this isn’t standard practice?
It shouldn't be standard practice.

I work rotating around about 25 different practices and they all have different procedures, but when it comes to annual reviews (birthday checks, year of care reviews... there are lots of different names) it is pretty much the same in them all.

I work as a Nursing Associate and I will see patients for the first part of their review. We'll talk all things lifestyle, how things are going, any concerns you may have, do your foot checks, take your height, weight, BP, an then your bloods.

These blood results go back to GPs (or a DSN if the practice has one) and they are reviewed by them. The patient will usually then have a telephone consultation with the DSN or GP to discuss blood results (and anything I'm not qualified to talk about... meds etc).

This may not be the way your practice works, but your blood results are definitely being reviewed by someone, and that someone is definitely qualified to review them.

Is there no way you can submit an e-consult to ask for a consultation with the practice nurse or a GP to talk over your results?
