So a bargin not

We don't know that so can't say that as none of us know the full facts. The only way to know any of this for sure is if someone wants to find out about it and contact the sellers and contact Animas. Otherwise we can't just throw assumptions around I don't think.

Err I think you find that most countries they are 'perscription only' America they are, I should imagine Europe is the same as their licencing regualtions are very similar to the ones we have...

But could you imagin how much the postage is going to cost to get it into the uk? Just can post it like a barbie doll.. You've got to comply with customs and exciles (sp) importation of medial supplies! etc etc...

So a bargin not

Postage: ?4.00 - Express Item location: London, London, United Kingdom
Post to: United Kingdom

Both what Ellie and I have said is 100% correct a pump is prescription only in all countries.
I also know for def the warranty is not transferable as was offered a animas pump by a USA contact. As are the consumables.
No GP or consulatant will ok the prescription private or otherwise unless you are able to use the pump. It's their livelyhood and reputation at stake as well as the pump users life.

When I had my pump delivered, it was delivered direct to my GP's surgery. This way provider was well and trully covered.
If anyone cares to look it is also stamped RX on the pump and on your boxed supplies.

Gutted..........

I wonder if it is different in Scotland.............?

Anyway, I wont be funding my own pump any time soon.......:(

Every health board has a different policy. You can read Glasgow's here starting on p23. I don't know Lanarkshire's guidelines, but if your DSN said they would fund consumables, I would check with the consultant just to be sure as that's unusual.

My son was going to use a 2 year old UK pump which was still under warranty by the company. I think it would depend on circumstances...

So to conclude on the funding debate for me.................if I had the money, I could buy one, but it would need to be ordered from the doctors, middle man kinda thing.................🙂

I think you'd need to check with the pump company.

They may just need confirmation from your doctor or consultant, rather than them ordering it on your behalf, although that's another possibility. I have no idea about that by the way, just thinking aloud.

Just trying to get it clear whether or not a pump must be prescribed......

Buying a pump is different from using it, using it I agree would need health care professionals to oversee and take responsibility for.......🙂

Pump companies won't sell a pump without a doctors note. You can get a note from your own consultant, or going privately through London Medical. But rather than even consider any of that, you are best getting an NHS pump! Hard to get in Scotland, but not impossible if you push for it.

I wont be self funding, as I dont have that kind of money to spare........:(

So not really considering, just discussing the intricacies of buying your own one brought on by the threads link to a used one on ebay.........:D

Have you asked at your clinic? Although it can still be hard sometimes, in general it's easier getting a pump in England as you have "Patient Choice" meaning you can chose to attend any clinic in the country and aren't just stuck with your local clinic like we are here : ( So there you can get to a pro-pump consultant at least! Also NICE Technology Appraisals are mandatory in England but not in Scotland.

Got appointment/annual review on the 8th of March to basically talk pumps, I went back on Levemir from Humilin I to see if it helped with my dawn phenomenon, which its not...........so i am confident the consultant I will be seeing will be up for it, its there in black and white..........

My nearest pump center is Monklands in Airdrie, I know all the team there so the whole experience should be problem free............I hope.......🙂

Yes Shiv, the pump company needs it in writing from a consultant or GP that you can have a pump and are self funding.
By law as a pump is prescription only they can not sell over the counter to anyone not even the Queen. The same aplies to consumables.

My GP took delivery from my USA friend so my friend was happy with the situation and it also complied with the USA laws.
Besides my GP wanted to play with the pump 1st :D

What pump do you use.......? Is it not on the list of usual brands and if so, are the consumables easily accessible.........

I use the Cozmo 1800.
It's not made any more due to medtronic's foul play in the USA courts.
It's still the best pump on the market so it was a shame when Smiths medical pulled it.
Yes all consumables are available with no problem at all from Advanced Therapeutics. As is full back up and service for the cozmo
Advanced T have taken on the Dana R pump now though. So will be changing to that pump in August when the warranty is up on my Cozmo.
