Whilst a newbie to the forums, I was diagnosed T2 in 1995. Trying first with diet, then Metformin, a short time on Byetta, then off Byetta (scare stories too much for my family), continuation of Metformin, then adding Glicazide, then Novorapid and Levemir.
Having buckled down over the past three months or so, my hba1c has improved (currently 60). Taken off Novorapid and Levemir last week (due to improving hba1c), I now need to improve things further.
I know that at the age of 62, I'm very late starting to take this all seriously, but it is now time.
So what you may ask, has spurred you on to start now? In a nutshell, Freestyle Libre.
Whilst not qualifying on NHS, I decided to self fund for a few months (not sure how long I can continue though?). With Libre, the ability to measure BG so easily compared to the dreaded finger prick, my awareness of just what food affects me the most, almost in real time, has improved very significantly, as has my control.
So, I need to shift some weight (quite a bit!!), fine tune the food and up the exercise (the dog in the corner groans!).
My apologies for rambling on so, but I just felt the need to get it all down, not only as a means of introducing myself to the forums, but also as a cathartic exercise to induce yet more encouragement
So, it's a 'hi' from me to you all and I trust you'll help me in your own unique ways
Thanks
Mike
