Relationship to Diabetes

I was assaulted today ... Only hit across my face and nothing hurt apart from feeling surprisingly upset inside..
I was walking up our road with my husband when we heard people behind us wanting to pass... Turned to find 2 people in early 20s on bikes aggressively side by side implying we should move out of their way so they could continue riding on the pavement. We remonstrated that it was a pavement and they should be on the road... We got abuse, my husband was shoved and had an arm raised to him ... Then the woman flew at me and hit me hard across my face. To cut a longish story short, the man kept saying his woman was pregnant ( she didn't look it, and what had that got to do with it anyway ?) in my statement later the policeman asked if I had any illnesses which may be affected, I said well I am not supposed to get stressed as I have diabetes... Good he said, we'll put that in !!!
The police got the pair as they had obviously been still on the pavement and probably riding fast etc to get away as they saw mrs phone the police.
So..... Diabetes ... Has uses, we were told to claim damages as it is reasonable to do so... Probably will, we were both a hit scared to be honest !

Ah well, the lunch we were going for was finally ordered at 3pm instead of 12.30 !!

Oh Ann - you are going through things right now. I hoper you have recovered from the shock and that you managed to enjoy your lunch.

Good grief!

Hope you manage to calm down after such an unpleasant altercation :(

Well done for standing up to them and reporting it.

How stressful, hope these two get the punishment they deserve and you are awarded some compensation.

Thanks 🙂 it seems to be like this here , no respect or consideration for anyone old or young :(

Stupid, horrible people :( Very sorry that you had to experience such unnecessary brutality :( Big hugs to you {{{Ann}}}

Thanks 🙂 🙂

Ann sorry to hear about what happened your very brave I think i would be to shaken to come on a forum just yet

P.s are things improving with your hubby now? I note you went for a meal 🙂

I think this sort of behaviour is becoming more common, there seems to be a proportion of the population with a huge chip on their shoulder and await any opportunity to vent their feelings.

I had a similar problem on my mobility scooter, youngsters though, who also tried to take the keys. Dont know why, as I was still on it and not letting go.🙂

Hope you feel ok after such a nasty situation.

Gosh, Ann, I do admire the way you both stood up to them. May I venture to say that 20 years ago I think that anyone in the wrong like that might have muttered a few words at you but not attacked you - you were very much within your rights - pavements ARE for people - but if you try to make any comments now then the reaction is "how dare you tell me what I'm to do or not to do" and it seems to happen regularly and in all sorts of situations. I hope the police scare them and it makes the local papers etc. 😱

Slipper - what a horrid thing to happen to you too. It would have scared me so much but well done to you for hanging on. There seems to be little or no respect in all age groups - all me, me, me and knowing rights but taking no responsibilities (not all youngsters are like that thank goodness). Where did it all go so wrong ?

What complete and utter scumbags! Well done for reporting them, let's hope they fall off their bikes... Cannot believe some people today... Last week I was walking the dog down the main road when I had abuse yelled at me from some lads in a car.... Was so upset for the rest of the day until I realised it was a question of just being in the wrong place at the wrong time, they would have picked on whoever was there didn't target me because it was me.... I looked for them in town later, probably best I didn't see the car as was set to do it major damage so best that it remained fantasy!!

Manners make man,

Manners make man, scumbags make themselves, its all down to education at home!! or alce of it!

Slipper that's horrid , hope you are ok . I checked with the police about cyclists on the pavement and confirmed so vehemently that it is illegal to ride on the pavements - it doesn't stop them though we see severalevery day on our avenue .
( husband and I are fine , just fam stuff still going on :( always will I guess )

We were taught respect for older people , give way , open doors, stand up for them if the bus is full - no more , we are the dregs I feel now :(

oh Ann that sounds horrible :(

I wonder where the diabetes comes into it!

I hope you're ok now and as the others said, well done for standing up for yourselves and reporting it 🙂

Totally shocked this even happened..............hope your both OK............😱

...I checked with the police about cyclists on the pavement and confirmed so vehemently that it is illegal to ride on the pavements - it doesn't stop them though...
Yes, absolutely illegal - unless the pavement is defined as a cycle path as well (which would be signed).

They ought to make not wearing a cycle helmet illegal as well.

We get loads of people on bikes on pavements round where I live. They say it is not safe for them to cycle in the road. They in their turn make it unsafe for pedestrians to be on pavements.

What a horrible thing to happen to you and your hubby Ann. I hope you're both okay now. It does make you wonder what the world is coming to though. XXXXXX

Thanks everyone. The 'bit about the diabetes ' was that the man kept shouting that the woman was pregnant which was bizarre, the police asked me if there was any illness I had which may have been made worse because of the incident- I said that i wasn't supposed to get stressed if possible because of my diabetes, I asked if that was relevant and they said it was !!
The police sent a support officer round today , I have been very impressed with the police in all this, they can't be faulted !!
