No laughing up the back there. I've really started losing weight again,, long may it last, and I've noticed I'm getting blood quite often when I inject, either that or it really hurts even though I'm careful where I stick the needle. The only thing I can think of is the needles are too long now, I've been on the 8mm ones and I'm wondering if any of our other slimmers have had a similar problem as the weight comes off? Should I mention this notion to dear Dr Idiot, or will I just be embarassing myself?

Hi
I would see if you can 'try out' some shorter needles somehow -do you have an appointment scheduled soon? It's worth a try, if they don't help you've lost nothing.

Only found out the other day that they still make needles that long!😱
My daughter was very skinny -no body fat at all- at Dx and they gave her 5mm needles, she has moved on to 4mm despite putting on weight. DSN gave her a few to try, liked them so changed script.

My DSN has sample packs of all sorts and lengths in her (desk) drawers .... 🙂

i had been experiencing the same my dsn gave me some 5ml ones to try and it has stopped so is definitely worth you trying the same, well done on losing weight

Great, thanks all. I'm glad it's something others have seen before. I'll mention it next time I talk to her.

Oh Alison - just have to say I love the title of this thread - can't wait for the day when I ask that question (very loudly!):D

I just came in and as I walked down the corrider I thought,Gee that Alison is looking quite petite today, she'll soon be after a new wardrobe.🙂

I use 6mm needles and don't bother to pinch up the skin, works for me.

Good luck

John

Too Thin

Maybe it's the hot weather in Inverness thinning your blood!
Seriously i'm not too thin and 5mm work fine for me

Hello Alison, I am now on the 4mm as the 5s were brusing me badly as I'm only just over 8st (and I wish I had more blubber to prod the needle in to be honest). These seem to suit me just fine - if you'd like to pm me with your address I could send you some so you could try them. If you'd like to try the 5s instead, I have a small stock of them you could have too if it helps.

All the best, Faith

Definitely ask your gp/DSN for smaller needles. I had 6mm and they were doing the same to me (I'm just under 8 stone) so DSN gave me 4mm needles and I have been fine with them.

Hi Alison
I've got a box of 4mm needles if u want them. I'm on the insulin pump but will still have a box for emergencies! I'm in Forres so can get to Inverness.
Feel free to message me if u want to arrange a meeting to hand em over. 🙂

Thanks Faith, that's really kind. I'm not sure but think I need to talk to doc before I do anything else. I may want to try the 5s, but I have a long way to go to reach 8 stone. I may pm in the next day or two if I get up the courage to try the 5s.

You would be welcome, you know that. Happy to help if I can. 🙂

When I changed to the 5mm needles, it was suggested that I use up my "left-over" 8mm ones by injecting at a slight angle (to reduce the depth). It might be worth a try to se if it makes any difference for you.

Either way I would certainly ask your GP about it -if he/she says yes, you have cracked it, and if they say no, you won't be in any worse position than you are now. 🙂

I'm 'with' all of this ... except, why do you need to pluck up courage to try a shorter needle? I'd only need courage to try a longer one?

I only used 4 mm while on MDI. Funny thing happened when the pharmacy was out of stock one time and offered small supply of 6 mm while wait for shipment. I was nervous of change from 4-to-6....OH made fun of me. She can laugh all she wants - I still have same 6's in cupboard.🙂

I know I'm being silly, but I've had so many problems with the Big D since dx that even a positive seeming change is a huge hurdle for me. I've just given myslef a good slap and told myself not to be so daft. 😱

Got some 5mm to try and did it this morning. It was fine and I'll be odering some with my next prescription. Thanks for your support and encouragement.
