Got my first HBa1C check on 8th August since being diagnosed and I can wait... I think I've done really well with changing diet, loosing a lot of weight... just want to see the proof..

🙂

Mick.

You will Mick you will. I am betting you will be delighted .

Absolutely nothing ‘sad’ about that at all Mick, it’s the proof of how well you have taken control. Don’t forget to share those results so we can celebrate with you 😉

Not sad, the first one is a big occasion. Good luck....it's gonna be much lower. 🙂

Nope 8th August, just had the appointment through, so still a while to wait even for the blood test, then I'll have to wait for the results... but I can see my patient records, so will be checking daily after the 8th 🙂

Well done for loosing some weight Mick D. It WILL help lots 😎, Good luck

If you have been self testing & getting good readings on your meter then I am sure the results will reflect that.
loosing weight can only help & if the you have been taking advice here then I am sure the Diet will be doing its thing as well

Well guys to say im over the moon is an understatement!!! got my results today ( i can see my patient records, don't see diabetic nurse until 6th Sept )
But results are....
HbA1c level (DCCT aligned) 5.7 % of Hb
Haemoglobin A1c level - IFCC standardised 39 mmol/mol

from 9.1 % when first diagnosed... 🙂

Also got Cholesterol results can anyone make any sense of these for me please? these are without the statins I was prescribed as I decided to wait to see what these results are.

Serum lipid levels
FASTING STATUS NOT INDICATED. .
Serum cholesterol level 4.9 mmol/L
LIPID GUIDELINES (NICE 2014)
Secondary prevention of CVD: use atorvastatin 80 mg.
(Start with 20 mg if CKD or high risk of interactions)
Primary prevention (inc. T2 DM): atorvastatin 20 mg if
QRISK2 >10%, T1 DM >40 y, CKD +/- albuminuria.
Recheck non-HDL cholesterol at 3/12 aiming for 40% fall
Special cases: high trigs, familial lipids: seek advice
Serum triglyceride levels 2.7 mmol/L [< 2.2]
Outside reference range
Serum HDL cholesterol level 1.23 mmol/L [0.9 - 1.4]
New method for HDL from 31/10/17: results are slightly
lower. Cholesterol:HDL ratio may be up to 20% higher.
To discuss individual results ring lab on ext
2212 or Derby on 01332-789383.
NON-HDL CHOLESTEROL 3.7 mmol/L
Serum cholesterol/HDL ratio 4.0 [< 5.0]

Cheers,
Mick.

Fantastic - well done!

As I understand it, for cholesterol the most important number is the one at the end, the total chol/HDL ratio. HDL is the "good" chol, so the lower the ratio, the better (because a bigger proportion of yr total chol is "good").

Where I come from, the target is to get the ratio below 4.5. Judging by the "[<5.0]", where you are, the target is below 5. Either way, looks like you're pretty good overall.

Yr triglycerides, part of the "bad" cholesterol, are a bit high vs target (2.7 vs target of below 2.2). No idea really what that means but maybe yr doc will still keep recommending statins to get them lower.

Personally, I don't have any probs from statins and they work *really* well for knocking cholesterol into line, fwiw.

Hi,
After a lot of thought I decided last week to start taking the statins I was prescribed, but a few days later and every day since I've not been feeling too good and I'm not sure if its the statins or something else... I've had a constant headache both day and night, feeling sick ( not actually being sick ) but stomach feeling very delicate.. also I have arthritis in my hip and I've had lots more aching pain in the hip since taking these..
So decided today to stop taking them for a few days see if all this goes away... then take it from there.. I've got a nurses appointment on 6th Sept so will discuss with her..

Anyone else had these sorts of side effects with statins?

Thanks,
Mick.

I had really severe hip pain whilst on Simvastatin, towards the end it was so bad I had trouble walking for any extended period of time. I didn't realise it was the simvastatin or I wouldn't have taken it for so long! I asked to switch to a different one and have been on Atorvostatin since, which has been completely symptom free 🙂

Hi, I'm on Atorvostatin.. so it maybe that it may not be.. I'll see how i am after I've not taken them for a few days to be sure.
Thanks for your reply.
