Am I being too harsh on myself

You know what, Kayla, I think as diabetic people we're expected to think in terms of "you can't have this, you can't have that" - that's certainly the way my DSN explained my new 'normal', anyway - which can be a really hard way to live. My attitude now is "I can have this, I can have that" but bearing in mind that there ARE foods that are best avoided if I want to stay in range. It's a tiny mental shift that has allowed me to feel that I deal with my diabetes on my terms, and it's stopped the constant guilt-trip (just cos I had a pudding once last week or I fancied a bar of chocolate!). Your levels look brilliant to me - you're right, try not to be so hard on yourself. 🙂
When I first spoke to my DSN he told me 'no you don't have to cut out what you've been eating all your life just have it in moderation meaning chocolate bars etc obviously, jeez if there was a shop near me that sold mousse's etc I'd be straight out getting one for after tea tonight but pork chop, mashed tattie with chives, peas and gravy will have to do me haha, I'm certainly going to have to stop obsessing with changing my plan if I'm above what I set out to be though as that's no way to live a life, will get some of my low carb dessert recipes put into action then that way I won't feel as bad if it was a loaded sugar and carb shop bought so looking forward to it, it's the silly little things that make me happy 🙂 thanks for all the fantastic support guys, couldn't get through it without you all 🙂 x

Oh btw in case anyone thinks I'm overdoing the carbs and insulin if I have planned a treat say a rolo mousse of 11g carbs with tea I do keep my meal down with meat, some veg and say 2 yorkshire puddings and lunch if I want a kit kat chunky peanut butter I will have scrambled eggs or bacon on a 25g carb roll rather than the usual sandwich of 2 slices of 34g carb bread just to make sure I've still kinda got it near my regular day meals is this ok? x

I certainly tend to work on this basis, ie, 'trading in' some boring carb I might have had with my first course in order to have a more interesting pudding. Obviously my carb count varies, but it just works out mentally easier to have the same general ball-park area of carbs, rather than completely reinvent the wheel the whole time. ( and you obviously don't have this problem, but it saves me putting on weight as well!)

Well generally my brekkie is about 30g, lunch about 40g although my last treat day of a kit kat peanut butter took me up to 54g but I only needed 5 units as was sitting at 4.8 and tea varies between 20-30 although now I'm getting more active I think I'm going to have to up the carbs as feeling like I'm running on no steam sometimes x

Sorry guys but these are a treat my lovely OH brought home with him tonight for me x

I'm p'd off if he'd told me what the surprise for me was I would have added it in with my tea but I'd already taken my insulin by the time he got in haha x

While on the thought of food can anyone offer advice the day I had my peanut butter kit Kat I was 4.8 before my lunch it was 54g carb total and my machine prompted 5 units I had a feeling I should have taken 6 by tea I was 7.7 should I have gone with my gut feeling I was still sitting at 4.8 2 and a half hours after my lunch x

Kaylz did you programme your meter or was it your DSN? I think that if you are questioning the amounts your meter is suggesting then the settings may need to be changed, however if you had had more insulin it sounds as if you would have gone low after 2.5 hours. How long after lunch did you test for tea?

It was my DSN it generally works out for me and the only reason I tested 2.5 hours after was because the needle came out my thigh a bit soon for my liking so I'm not 100% sure I got it all anyway it would have been around 4.5-5 hours after lunch I tested and was at 7.7 x

It might not be your lunchtime bolus in that case, which basal are you on and when do you take it? If your level is higher 5.5 hours after a meal than 2.5 hours after, that might mean your basal insulin needs adjusting. Something you might want to discuss with your DSN.

I'm on 8 units of tresiba and I take it at around 10pm , my DSN was happy with me at last appointment so said I probably wouldn't see her again until around March, any suggestions on what to have tomorrow do you think I should have a 15g mini bar of green and blacks with my lunch or a rolo mousse etc with my tea help me out haha x

Ok technically I could have had both but I've decided on a ski mousse with tea my other dilema tuna, mayo with chives do I have it on bread or toast x

And that;s me running behind, I usually have Saturday and Sunday sorted by now too haha always been the same, my grandad does the shopping everyday so a note goes through his door everynight with what we fancy, just can't get him to sit down at all really, at 84 he still kinda works with a local helping him with gravestones etc unfortunately as far as I know he never helped the guy with the making of the Braveheart statue though :( lol x

I've got a pack of 6 (well, four now) in the cupboard🙂
I have 7 left now me, my mum and the OH just had one after tea he doesn't usually like dark chocolate but he liked them so I now have to go and find a nice place to hide them THEY ARE MINE haha x
