Any tips on dealing with alcohol would be welcome...

I've been on low carbs since the first of the month. Having dropped to 3.4 after one glass of wine on Sunday night, I wondered if a way round it would in fact be to have some carbs.

Last night I went for a Chinese meal. I didn't have any rice, but I did have prawn on toast and won ton (as well as any carbs that might have been in the sauces). Still got down to 3.6 :(

It seems I might as well have had a 'normal' Chinese. But I don't really want to go back to eating all those carbs because when I am not drinking my levels are so much better.

Well don't eat em when you ain't drinking, but allow yourself a bit of slack when you are, then!

Go Indian instead of Chinese - basmati rice is far far more 'slow release' than normal rices - so you can't cure a proper hypo with basmati LOL

3.6 is only borderline proper hypo. (3.3 is the absolute clinical point at which your brain suffers)

So, you could probably have a jelly baby or 2 upfront and then stay low carb for the meal.

Or a bag of crisps in the pub. Or nick a chip or 3 off someone else, ditto a bit of naan or chapatti in the Indian. Whatever!

Just remember that pork scratchings are zero-carb and so won't do anything to support your blood sugar against the effects of alcohol blocking your liver from releasing glucose.

Oh I see...

Or try beer, which has a built-in supply of carbohydrate - it's a holiday in a glass! :D

As it only drops you a bit, just try 6-7 medium to fast acting carbs if you have a glass (or two)

ha ha ha

Yeah!.. but get it in the right order, as the old saying goes; beer then wine, you'll feel fine - wine then beer, you'll feel queer 😛

You guys are very silly!
