Hi all, just want to pick some brains please, have had some alcohol tonight, well it s alled C2 by Carlsberg and is only 2% and I mixed it with sugar free 7up and only drank half the bottle, it comes in a pint bottle, anyway my question is that for tea i had scampi n chips (healthiest thing on the menu where we were) and only took half my rapid as wasn't sure how alcohol works, i test 15 mins ago and was 19.8 so thought c**p I should have taken normal does but have just tested as was going to correct and down to 13.1 so not sure what I should do, didn't take the correction does obvioulsy but will I drop more or will the sugar content of the beer cancel it out??

booze!!!!

What a pain, but isn't pain so close to pleaseure!!! woops sidetracking.

Anyway, I would of injected as normal perhaps on the low side, and kept an eye on my levels, more than usual by far, then end the night with a carb snack, and test again, I would not worry about being in teens at all.

But I'm still learning (not about drinking tho!) so would be interested in what others have to say!

I'm not sure, but 2% doesn't really seem worth worrying about.

Thats what I thought but not having a drink in 4 yrs and then being diagnosed I wasn't sure and they never really fill you in on this stuff 😱

The only thing I know about alcohol is that it lowers your blood glucose.

Now here's something I learned on a alcohol awareness course to do with driving.

If you drank 1 litre of 1% ABV (Alcohol by volume) drink it would take 1 hour for a normal liver to process the alcohol from your system. If you have fizzy drinks or food it takes even longer.

So half a pint is about 0.3 of a litre x 2 % (0.3 x 2) so it would take 36 minutes (0.6) hours for your liver to process it.

So I would guess that your blood glucose would be artificially lower for at least 36 minutes plus you would need to add on say an hour for the fizzy and food.

I wouldn't drive for at least an hour and a half.

If the alcohol has sugar in it (as beer would) then it may raise BG then the alcohol may lower BG. Such a samll amount may not make a lot of difference. Best just to keep checking and enjoy!

Enjoy the drink and monitor to see how it affects you. I am not a drinker, so one glass of wine and it looks like I had the whole bottle! We are all different so it will affect us in different ways.

One of the reasons our sugar levels drop is the way the liver works. while it is dealing withthe alcohol it is not releasing the glucose into our systems.

yeah i dont touch a drop so i guess i cant really advise

sorry x

Yeah tough Question Ally , I tend to have the odd lager (or 5 ) and my levels tend to rise and I have to correct !! I've never had a rise and fall , although we are all different so I would check and check again !! Also as we all know as Diabetics no two days are ever the same so what could make you rise one day could make you drop like a stone the next.

I rose to 19 and then dropped to 14 and it rose again to 17 and then i woke at 4am and it was 15.9 and then when i got up at 9 it was 9.9 so god knows lol :D
