No judging from me either, you will be able to tweak your insulin overtime to help you with the highs. Good luck!

I didn't know the original has been changed, nor what it said.
We all get the things to deal with that are ours. Ugh. There'll be a more elegant way of saying that.

May I suggest a note in the original post, along the lines of the post is a work in progress, and is edited.

Alcohol and diabetes can be a tricky balancing act! I've had a few sneaky hypos when drunk but I've also shot right through the roof. I tend to stick to gin and slim line tonic as it has the least noticeable affect on my blood glucose!

From the comments it seems the content of the post was different, all I'll say is admitting there's a problem is a very brave thing to do. There are no judgements here either 🙂 feel free to post whatever you want. Yes it's a diabetes support forum but we're all much more than just diabetics!

I am type 1 and still in the honeymoon period. I have continued to drink alcohol but with caution and certainly not every day. I have found the following are ok; red wine, gin and slimline tonic (normal tonic is a no no as too many carbs), prosseco and lager. I always drink water in parallel. oatcakes are good, if I am not having an actual meal with my drinks I will have 2 oatcakes. I only ever have 2 drinks if I am not eating a roper meal and this normally only on a Friday night. It really is trial and error. I highly recommend recording alcohol in your food diary so that you can then look for trends. I don't think you can look at alcohol in isolation, you need to also consider your diet, general health and exercise regime as the effects of alcohol will be different for everyone depending on other factors. I am no expert but this is my personal experience to date. I hope someone else finds it useful.

Hi Ingressus, I didn't realise the thread had changed either. You have my best wishes for your personal journey - we all struggle with our various difficulties, and need support at times. All the best to you, my friend 🙂

Yep. Heart patient, vertigo sufferer, tired. Also a dumb male who's really.....😱o_O errr wrong forum. Sorry. I'll just pop off too .....

I had two glasses of Advocaat this afternoon as it's Easter. I just thought to heck with it. It was very nice.

😱 I used to drink one advocaat with lemonade every Saturday night with a Chinese takeaway but obviously gave it up as its FULL of sugar x

I occasionally have a Cuba Libre (50ml Malibu coconut rum and splash of lime cordial in a 380ml highball glass, top up with Pepsi Max). Since the ingredients (except the Malibu) are all sugar-free, perhaps I should call it a Freestyle Libre! 😉

Easter family get together today whearas in the past a few beers were the normal i have, since diagnosed T1, been careful and worried not to overdo the alcohol thing. Ex soldier so it did not come natural. However it's not, for me anyway, to say how much or how little is enough but it's hard. T1 or T2 does not make it easier but abstention for some is the only option. If it is a choice then that is an individual decision. Anyway Hobgoblin and an Islay malt (with ice sorry Mike) and a night at the bingo suffices.

I have a pint of good German wheat beer a day normally with my evening meal, I also always take up to an hours walk in the evening about an hour or so after the meal. I've not seen any difference in my readings even when I don't have a beer and my weight continues to fall with my diet and exercise routine, My wheat beer is my daily treat.

Just a little update for all you kind people who supported me, i have had my first sober weekend, now being put on talking therapy, joined a gym for a little exercise mainly swimming, diabetes is absolutely all over the place i think its was controlled by alcohol, but i will have to deal with it, thanks

One problem at a time Ingressus and you're right, alcohol may have been keeping the levels lower but doing so by keeping your liver and kidneys busy trying to cope!
You're doing great and I hope you can go from strength to strength. Well done you! 🙂
