By how much. How do you feel afterwards

I've a hen do to go to soon and am worried about low levels I don't drink a lot per say.

Since monitoring myself I have noticed after 2 glasses of wine at the weekend I get a good/better bs result the next day I'm not sure why either.
Sounds like a sensible reason to have a nice drop or three of something red 😉

I'm not allowed to drink at all, boo hiss!

I feel terrible after but dont know if its just a hangover, im in Scarbrough at the weekend scooter ralley im going to have an experiment loll get a base Blood Base have a pint then take regular readings my kind of experiment loll

According to my DSN T1's have to be particularly careful with alcohol :(
As Lucy mentioned above your liver gets busy removing the alcohol from the bloodstream and while it's doing that it doesn't do the dripfeed of glucose that basal insulin injections cover.
So T1's have the double whammy situation of:
a) going high due to the carbohydrate content on the drink itself, and then
b) going hypo when the liver stops chucking out glucose.

I was told to be very careful, never inject for the carb content on alcoholic drinks and make sure to eat something carby if I'm having a bit of a session.
Sort of spoils the fun a bit when a evening out can cause a hypo 😱
regards

Yep although I notice the content of this thread has changed since being posted, I was told to either snack on crisps while I was out drinking, if drinking spirits with a diet mixer make every 3rd or 4th with full fat mixer or make sure to have something carby before going to bed - ie - a bit of toast, I don't understand why you changed the content of the thread though x

Ah ok, I didn't realise the effect on type 1s. That's a bummer :(

probably for the best in my case hehe

Morning all ok i did change it people dont have much sympathy for self inflicted issues and its embarrassing this is a diabetes site i feel for people who are fighting this and i feel for you all and have helped me considerably which i appreciate, obviously i have been through a bad time with insulin thing and haven't dealt with it well, that came on top of an existing battle an i know i need to get my boat in order and thanks to all i have learnt so much and to deal with my diabetes as for the other issue the fight goes on i will beat both

I drink far more wine than I should but when I did dry January I found that there was no difference in my levels whether or not I drank alcohol.

I've heard this from medical people. Even though it has sugar in. It's the effect it has on the liver. So ... *goes to bar and orders three pints of cider*

Ingressus, I thought your original post was very brave and addictions are not self inflicted life choices. Nobody has the right to judge how or why we do certain things. I understand your point on changing your post though and wish you well. It's a hard battle and I hope you win it!

Hmmm. I didn't know the subject had changed when I posted.
All I can say is been there, got the T-Shirt :( Beer every night was a 20 year habit for me.
One evening a couple of years back I was watching a program on a recovering heroin addict and thought "Ok if he can then do it I can give it a go...I'll wait 10 minutes until I have a beer".
After 10 minutes, decided I could wait another 10 minutes... and so on, all night, until I went to bed that night. Sober.
But the next night I did the same.
And the next night. And the next.
It wasn't easy. It's a lonely place when you're trying a to break a 20 year habit.
And now? I can go weeks without. But I still have to be careful. It's all too easy to slip back into it.
I hate to admit it to myself but I am an addict...
Good luck Ingressus.

Good luck ingressus don't knock yourself or feel like you need to explain anything anyone on here m8 x
