Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
I Just thought this may be an interesting poll and wanted all other types of diabetics except type one and 2 diabetics to tell us what age they became diabetic, the reason the think they became diabetic and what your levels were if you can remember, if you could give us a brief description of how long it took you to get on top of diabetes if you have and any other useful info that would be great.

If you read this and feel left out as you are not another type of diabetic except type one and two I am doing the same poll for type two and type one diabetics

Diagnosed at 39, no symptoms. Picked up by chance at a health fair at work finger prick test was 26.7mmol, hba1c was 127 at diagnosis. Diagnosed as MODY. Long family history of diabetes on my fathers side.

thank you for your reply.

I know your group is smaller but I hope to get an idea of the reasons for diabetes in your group.

Could you explain to me what MODY is and how you deal with it and what meds you take for it ??

MODY - Maturity Onset Diabetes of the Young, genetic form of diabetes (long family history on my fathers side). I deal with it the same as everyone else, I just get on with it! Because I carry the defective gene I would have developed diabetes no matter what my weight or lifestyle was. MODY only affects 1-2% of all diabetics.

I have heard of mody but did not know much about it. Thank you for explaining it to me.
