OMG. A.painless affair but... first of all the GP hadn't seen my records that I had only recently had all the diabetic checks needed. I gently explained that they had all.veen done in October. Then he told me i should have the Hbthingy blood test. I told him I was advised to have it in Feb 2020.He checked and said oh yes that is right , here is the form to contact the hospital , book it in end of Jan. Finally he said would you like your cholesteol checked I declined it isn't too bad and I don't think I would ever entertain Statins (the jury still out on that). He agreed and told me I have good control of my diabetes. We had a little chat about Brexit and the forthcoming election. That was that. Not a mention about metformin or much diabetic related. May be
I should see the receptionist next time.

Glad it went ok, you won’t be worried next time now will you.
It’s grand to hear he said you had good control so no meds suggested.

Ah, that is the oddness of it all. I àm on meds
Metformin.I am not sure he realised that.No mention of them. It was later when I was thinking over the whole thing, it struck me.

When I was on tablets they really only mention them if they thought the dose needed changing. It’s not much different now I am on insulin, all my nurse asks is how many units of basal insulin and my ratio for mealtime insulin and if I’ve had any hypo’s, so I understand where you are coming from .
Sadly GPs and diabetes practice nurses (DN) usually don’t get very much training on diabetes so after a brief time of coming to sites such as this one, we usually know more about our diabetes than they do.
Having said that my newish nurse really knows her stuff.

Even though I have said elsewhere my medication reviews have been variable, even the worse and had all my medication up on the screen.

Glad to hear it went well in the end @Sharron1 - and it sounds like the GP you saw must be rather overrun as it doesn’t seem like they had any chance to prepare before you came in.

in your shoes I would suggest you do get your cholesterol checked, whatever your feelings about Statins. You would need a ‘full panel’ rather than just a total cholesterol figure in order to be able to make sense of it, but as a person with diabetes we are all at increased risk of cardiovascular problems, so keep on an eye on the markers which also affect cv risk - that way you can make informed decisions on the best ways forward for you (even if you don’t currently think that’s tablets).

You are correct. The GP didn't know, as clearly the notes were not on my records but I had it checked in April 2019, along with other blood tests . I do keep an eye on it. He was looking at results for July 2018. I suspect I will do the same thing sometime next year. The results showed I have good cholestrol, which at the time I felt something was working.

I never really got in with Tofu, and preferred Paneer which is firmer and can be fried into cubes with a crispy edge. However a recent recipe has redeemed tofu for me by using it as a sort of scrambled egg replacement (my youngest is vegan) and it works brilliantly for that. I think it’s the texture of it when it’s in cubes that I wasn’t keen on.
