Just been diagnosed with type 1 on Tuesday, on 2 injections of insulin per say. Worried this is going to completely take over my life. Any advise greatly accepted. Thanks

Hi Donna, sorry to hear about your diagnosis. You have come to the right place to get help, support and advice

There is a lot to learn at the start and things take time to settle down. Once you get to grips with things it just becomes part of normal life and it does not need to prevent you from doing anything.

Tell us a little more about how you were diagnosed and also about what insulin you are using. Ask any questions that come to mind and someone will come along with an answer. I will let Northerner direct you to some fabulous resources that will help you along the way.

I look forward to hearing how you are getting on

Hi Donna, from another Donna and welcome to the forum. This place is great for help and advice.

Hi Donna and welcome. I was diagnosed as T1 at the end of May and am also on 2x insulin a day, I'm on Novomix30. Have you been given a BG reader for finger prick testing ?
I find this forum invaluable for info and advice (not to mention the ability to have a right good rant or a laugh :D) - there is so much to take in.
For me, I decided to get to grips with the blood testing numerous times a day and the injections first whilst reading up about everything - there are some brilliant links on here for books etc. Now I feel "comfortable" with this I am looking at the diet side and greatly cutting down carbs.
As you'll find said many times on the forum, this is a marathon not a sprint and every little thing you can do helps.
Good Luck and keep us posted.

Thanks all, yes i am finger prick testing four times a day and am on levemir x 2 a day 12ml. Im fine with the finger testing and the injections just worried about levels going up and down. My diet is pretty good so hoping it will all just settle down. Diabetic nurse checking in with me every day, just all a bit overwhelming.

Hi Donna

It sounds like you have a good team around you.

You may find it helpful to record the amount of carbohydrates that you eat at each meal. Once you do that you may be able to see patterns in your BG readings linked to the amount of carbohydrates that you have eaten. I know the papers talk only about sugar, but for everyone it is any carbohydrate that will be made into glucose once inside you.
