If you forget to take insulin injection before meal, is it safe to take it immediately after?

Thank you, Inka, for taking the time to send this succinct reply. I have come to diabetes late in life and not that long ago, so it's all relatively new. And whilst you can do a Google search if you have a query, the answer is often vague, and sometimes doesn't even relate to the question asked. So I came on here, being assured I would get help and advice from a friendly community. This hasn't really been my experience overall. For example, there were 51 views to this question but only one person bothered to reply. Now I realise it wasn't a very exciting question, but it was a genuine one from someone learning the ropes as it were So thanks, not, for your help. I am leaving this site now as it has proved, in my case, not to be what I expected.

Hi @Ditzyoldme - so sorry to hear that's how you've found your experience on this forum. I was one of those views. I did not respond because I do not take insulin and could not have provided you with the answer you were looking for. I suspect that many T2s reading your message were similarly placed. Nothing wrong with the question in itself!

@Ditzyoldme I kept my reply very brief because I imagined you wanted to do the missed injection ASAP. I hope the brevity didn’t offend you.

Do reconsider your decision about this site. Everything seems different at first and I felt a bit like I didn’t fit in here when I first joined, but now I’m happy here and feel I ‘know’ many of the posters here.

You have just as much right to be here as anyone else. We’re all different and have different tones, different approaches. You’ll find ‘your people’ here if you choose to stay.

Wishing you well. XX

I'm sorry you feel the site is not what you expected, I wouldn't leave just because you had so many views and 0 responses this happens on many social media platforms and that Is fine, you'll realize people will respond when they got time.

The answer to your questions is yes you can take insulin after eating, but depending on what insulin you are injecting, it's best to do it 10/15 mins before eating.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask away.

Sorry I may have been one of the people who upset you, by looking and not replying @Ditzyoldme I had seen @Inka’s reply and like her had assumed you wanted a quick and succinct answer so you could get on with the injection.

You are not alone in being diagnosed late in life, many people are finding that it comes as a shock. I hope you will stick with visiting the site as you will get reliable advice. I suspect as others have suggested that they felt your question had been answered and unless you know more information about somebody's situation it is difficult to give a specific answer. There are many different medications that people are taking which may influence the response to a question. You will have got that many views as people usually scan all the new posts and maybe only reply to those they feel they can make a contribution to.
So please don't dismiss being part of this very friendly and supportive community. If you look around the forum you will realise how supportive people are.

It was a correct answer - had it not been correct - you can be 100% certain that me, Patti, Bruce etc would have said so.

I was another one that looked but didn't reply. I have no experience of insulin so didn't answer. This forum is a fantastic place for help and advice.

I also looked, and saw that @Inka had answered your question very promptly and don’t think I could improve on the reply. I also assumed, by the time I looked at it, that you would have acted on the info given. I find it slightly irritating when I answer a question, and someone else then comes along and puts the exact same thing underneath, so I don’t usually repeat things already said.

Or if there had been some nuance (which is more common: where different people might do slightly different things). (I do think I should have clicked on the Like button to indicate I agreed with the answer.)

I view messages when it’s something I am also needing the answer to! It’s not me ignoring the question.
I am new to all this as well and I am not confident enough to give an answer to some questions. What I find is the right person answers the question and sometimes that is all you really want.
I hope you continue to use the forum I have learnt so much but I am not a ‘contributor’ in the way some of the fab people on here are, I wish I was but we are all different.

I hope that you feel able to continue with the forum @Ditzyoldme
I hope that your levels settled after your meal.

We all forget to do what we know we should ideally do at times.
I find I am content if I know why my levels have gone a bit bonkers.
