Type 2
Hi ,I really need advice urgently.I`m type 2, have Peripheral and Autonomic Neuropathy and Fibromyalgia.Over the weekend my left big toe has become very swollen, red and extremely painful the redness and swelling goes from the top of the foot, down the side of the big toe and the side of the foot too.The ball of my foot is swollen and hard and so painful to either touch or bear weight.I`m having to walk on the outside of my foot.I`m used to numbness ,electric shock like shooting pains in toes and numbness, this is something different.I`ve also had two UTIs in the last month, having had two lots of three days Anti Biotics ,just this last week. Any suggestions very welcome as this pain is leaving me in tears, which is so unlike me. Thanks x

Get in to the docs as soon as you can. Best to get in there quicker than to leave it.

Assuming you attend a podiatry service I would advise you to call them asap. I have been told by my podiatrist to make an urgent appointment with them at the local podiatry clinic (not main NHS) if I have any abnormal signs/feelings in my feet. They should be able to make you an urgent appointment soon as.

Thanks very much,I`m just waiting for a telephone appt in the next half hour or so.I do see the Podiatrist about every eight weeks. She`s told the GP she`s not happy with my toes but GP just says it is part of the Neuropathy, she hasn`t even looked at my feet.Seen nobody about any of my conditions since 2010 .

If that's the case, I also recommend you get a complaint in too.

Seconded. That's way too long to go without seeing anyone! Hope you get it sorted asap xx

Thanks for your advice.I went to see nude at surgery this morning, she didn`t want to look at my foot, even though l was walking on the side of my foot, thank goodness for my stick. She said the Doctor thought it sounded like Gout. They will ring me with results tomorrow hopefully. It's very swollen now and not sure, but my right big toe is red and swollen tonight ! So just be relieved when l know what this is.My headache isn`t helping either, think it's the Neuro because can hardly turn my head .I`m so tired ,which is my CFS so used to not sleeping.I just want to get sorted.

So sorry to hear of the problems you're experiencing Virginia ~ sounds a nightmare for you ~ I dont understand why your Nursie wouldnt even look at your foot ~ that was not very caring or professional of her at all IMO when she could clearly see how much pain you are in ~ I do hope your GP will resolve these issues for you soon, and very soon as you can't carry on suffering like this. Just out of interest, have you trodden on something sharp when walking in your bare feet as its possible your foot may have become infected? Just a thought. Do please update us with your results after their telephone call tomorrow. Take care V. x

So let me get this right. Your GP has said it’s the neuropathy without examining it, then the nurse sees you without examining it, and the doctor thinks it might be gout by the sound of it.

Are any of these people qualified? From your description it doesn’t sound at all like gout.

It was drummed into me at medical school - history, examination, diagnosis. You can’t begin ordering tests until you have done all three. Next time you see anyone there, take your flipping shoes off.

Virginia, you say you're getting your results tomorrow but what would these results be for ~ have you had bloods taken? x
