Ok so I'm looking to give up smoking, the consultant wasn't too bothered at my first appointment as she though I had had enough to deal with getting diagnosed type 1 and then my eyes, I'm looking to move to vaping to wean myself off but I have read that some people levels don't cope well and it may be due to the vaping, an help would be greatly appreciated as always and soory @mikeyB but I'm tagging you as I'm sure you vape 🙂 x

Another vaper here. I can't honestly say if it has any effect on my levels as I switched before DX but it doesn't seem to cause any problems and is much kinder on the pocket.

Thanks khskel, if you don't mind me asking what do you use as I'm also looking for recommendations from experienced vapers x

No experience Kaylz. But well done on taking each step to look after yourself.
I have said it before but I will say it again. Be proud of yourself.

Thank you, I really am proud of what I've achieved lately 🙂 x

Best thing you can do for your health @Kaylz 🙂 When I stopped (don't say 'give up' because that makes it sound like you are having to sacrifice something) there was no such thing as vaping, so can't remark on that. I read a book, 'The Easy Way to Stop Smoking', which is really excellent - I had tried many times prior to reading the book, using gum and patches, but they just keep you addicted to nicotine :( Actually ridding yourself of the physical addiction to nicotine takes about a month, then it's a case of getting rid of the habit of wanting something to do with your hands, or when you have a cuppa or a drink etc., which can take a while. It's a cheaper option than vaping, so worth a try! The way it works is it explains away all the excuses people use to continue smoking - by the end of the book you realise there are no excuses or reasons to smoke (most people manage perfectly well not smoking!) so there's no point in carrying on! 🙂

I may just try and go it cold turkey, I managed to go from 4 cans of lager and a bottle of fruit cider every night before diagnosis to giving up completely in January so I may just be able to do it 🙂 x

You've obviously got the willpower! The book will help 🙂 I had been a smoker for 20 years and I literally stopped overnight. I did have withdrawal symptoms, but as I said they only really last 3-4 weeks, and I just said to myself 'bring it on!' and actually chose to enjoy fighting them and overcoming them 🙂

You can do it! 🙂

Good luck! You’ll manage it fine. I’m 4 years smoke free (ish I’ve been known on a night out), but I will say it gets easier and easier every month that passes.
Personally I’d try stopping all together as I have friends who are now finding it hard to give up vaping.

Hi Kaylz, sorry I’m late. Yes, I’m an experienced vaper. Being a lady, I expect you’re used to “milder” cigarettes. So locate a vape supplier on the net. The best is the one I use- I’ll PM the name.

Pick out one of the slender vape devices, not one of those with great clunky battery boxes. I’ll give you a tip on the PM.

With regard to fluid, start on 1.8% strength for the first month, then 1.4% for a month, then 1% for a month. You’re nearly there, then.

With regard to flavour, stick to ordinary tobacco to begin with, then have a play later. I can’t stand any of the fruit flavours, but then I’m a tough guy.

Best of luck 🙂 x

Like @mikeyB I would avoid the fruity flavours like the plague. I'm down to 0.6% strength now.

Just sending all my support, you can do this.

Whatever you decide to do will be a step in the right direction. I have no experience in this matter but when my husband stopped smoking after having patches he relied on sweets. He isn't diabetic but has now been stopped about 4 years. Perhaps when you have a craving find something you like to eat or perhaps try sugar free chewing gum.
good luck 😉

Good for you, Kaylz. Great decision.😛 I stopped in 2004 - my chest hurt😱. It took a couple of goes, but I stuck to my guns. The most difficult thing for me was not having a ciggie with a drink in the pub, so I used nicotine gum for about ten days (I used to go to the pub a lot!🙄) then just carried on...

Try to work out when you’re most at risk of falling off the wagon and prepare yourself (gum, avoidance tactics, etc etc).

One of the ladies at my local pub said: “I’ll tell you one thing about stopping smoking...it’s impossible!” I don’t know if her comment was clever or stupid, but it REALLY encouraged me to prove her wrong! :D

@Mark Parrott I think I may have saw you were a vaper? x
I am sort of a vaper. I use it most of the time but still have a morning roll up. I find vaping doesn't help first thing.
