Hello just wondering if you could ask your Facebook followers f or advice for myself please.
So, my son aged 11 was diagnosed in August 2016 with type one diabetes, since this he always seems to be poorly, high temp, sore throat, diarrhea, actually as we speak we are in hospital as he collapsed after being sick. What I am trying to say is, Is this normal as I feel my poor boy is just not getting a break.

Hi Laura. Welcome.
I am sorry to hear you're son is so poorly. I hope he makes a swift recovery soon .
I can only imagine how worried you must be what with all the illnesses he seems to be having. Unfortunately I can offer no advise, except that sometime we do seem to be more prone to infections.
We have some very experienced, knowledgeable people on here hopefully they will be along soon.
Maybe @Northerner can help

Hi Laura, welcome to the forum 🙂 So sorry to hear your son has been having so many problems. What are his blood sugar levels like generally? Children with Type 1 shouldn't really be getting ill any more than those without, as far as I'm aware, but if he is having problems keeping his blood sugar levels under control then this can encourage infections and make their effects more severe, as well as causing them to linger longer :(

What insulin regime is he on? How did his diagnosis come about, and how has he adapted to the fingerpricks and injections?

It might be worth calling the Diabetes UK Helpline, as they may be able to advise you on some good resources to help - they can be contacted on the following link:
