@Ryan_80 Facebook reminded me that it was 2 years yesterday I started on the Omnipod dash from MDI.
Honestly it was life changing for me and I cannot list off all the reasons why but this was my Facebook post last year, 2 years on and this is still how I feel, it’s made my life better in ways I don’t appreciate all the time but when I remember how MDI was this makes diabetes less effort, less time consuming and I get healthier with it as I learn more:
Today marks 1 year of pumping!
I cannot list all the improvements this little device has made to the quality of my life, more than I was excepting and in ways I never thought.
But here’s some
- Medical results
- Better time in range
- Better and more sleep
- Less hypos (lows)
- Lower hypers (highs) and less often - fixed quicker
- Specific settings for certain factors, with a few buttons - rugby, periods, ovulation, illness
- Able to eat my breakfast within 15 minutes of insulin - this was hours before
- No more injections ( I didn’t think this would be a win, but I would have never injected for certain things, I would just not eat it)
- Better relationship with food - not avoiding because I didn’t feel it was worth an injection
- Not having to take my meds the same time every day and wake up by a certain time to take it, more lie ins and flexibility
The fact based improvements, the blood tests and data which are material improvements in all the key metrics. Mean I will live better as without complications for longer
I basically don’t have hypos anymore, I can stop them. My time even at lower ranges near hypo is less than 1%
I can turn off my insulin as and when needed with a few clicks.
This improves even basic aspects of life such as just walking, Monday we were walking and my levels started to drop, I turned it off, had some raisins and carried on walking while staying in range. Before we would have stopped and I would have had a hypo.
I was hesitant for years about being attached to a pump, but I think having the libre already, plus it being normally on display removed some of that concern. Having my diabetes and this incredible tech on display makes me proud, not embarrassed. And that it’s a patch pump that suits my life is epic. I’ve not lost one yet, it’s had contact rugby, mud, water (sea, pools lakes), sweat.
I might be bleeping or making clicking noises a lot of the time but wow is it worth it. It’s not uncomfortable just don’t wear it on your arm for rugby
Here’s to a healthier me and hopefully closed loop technology for all those type 1s who want and need it
