Has anyone used the "Navagator" or Freestyle Libre system from Abbots would really be interested in feedback as we need to get one of these systems for my husband as he's a brittle diabetic of 40 years and has no hypo awareness and is having multiple hypos a day - the pump isn't an option thanks in advance

Hello, and welcome to the forum. Yes, there are quite a few of us on here using one. One of our members trialled it, and wrote a blog, which is useful to read.

Otherwise, type Freestyle Libre into the search box at the top right hand side of this page, and have a browse, there are quite a few discussions in the pros and cons.

Libre isn't available on NHS, so you'd have to self fund. Almost certainly worth it if suffering with no hypo warning symptoms.
Also worth asking diabetes clinic about short term.loan of CGM continuous glucose monitoring.

Worth noting too that the Freestyle Libre doesn't act as a warning system too - its benefit comes from the fact it makes it easier to test frequently and can offer insight into what your blood sugar will do next. This is possible with standard meters too, but the Libre does make it easier.

I would say it will also make it easier for him to see what he is doing with his diet and insulin. If he is having multiple hypos a day, he's taking too much insulin and there is likely quite a bit of work to do to revise his doses and diet to get him to a more comfortable position.

Not trying to be negative but it is really important he understands that something like the Libre is the first step in a lot of hard but worthwhile work. Simply having one in itself won't suddenly fix things.

A cgm is great for warning you of impending hypos and your bg dropping fast.

Simply having one in itself won't suddenly fix things.

They are not infallible and the costs are high but, in my opinion, worth it.
