Hello all. I have been on steroids for the last 5 months which has contributed to me becoming diabetic. I have been lurking here for a few weeks now and the information has been invaluable. I am on metformin 500 x 2 per day. My HBA1C was 55 and 2 months later was 49. Here's my problem: My sugar still fluctuates between 5.2 (on waking) & 9.5 after eating, especially the evening meal. I have cut down dramatically on carbs but I am losing weight which I don't want to do. Has anyone got any ideas about foods which will bulk up my meals but that won't push my sugars up? Many thanks in advance.

If you have reduced your carb intake I suggest you increase the amount of good fats you are eating.

Oily fish, full fat dairy, quality meat (ideally as unprocessed as possible, so limit bacon and sausages / preserved meats). Plus nuts and seeds too.

Good luck with your weight gain.

Keep the proteins and fats up to keep you feeling full.

Thank you both. I don't eat much meat so I will consider adding meat or cheese to my lunchtime menu. I don't know why I didn't think of that. I suppose it's because I've been so overwhelmed by it all. Thank you, again.

As we are in salad season, glugs of olive oil would be good too. Sliced tomatoes, feta, splosh of oil, bit of salt and pepper and some basil leaves. Yum!

Ooh yes, avocado is a great shout @chaoticcar 🙂
