Many people find walking after a meal helps increase insulin sensitivity and reduce post-meal BG rises.

As for how often to test, I think it’s helpful to spread your before-after checks around between different meals so you get a good feel for how your blood glucose is behaving with different meals and at different times of the day. 🙂

Thanks. 8.6 this morning. I want to know if I should test on waking as I wake then stay in bed then get up come down and test then usually wait an hour before eating. Today I ate straight after testing

HI @pinkjude - I tend to test about 15-20 minutes after getting up and usually just before breakfast. It's the consistency in routine that is important I think, so that you have a good base level comparison level day-to-day. Every day I feed the cats before 8am, so it's a good marker for me to test after they are sorted. Most people test on immediately waking, so before they get out of bed and again before eating but, to my mind, it's whatever routine works best for you that you can maintain.

Your morning levels will drop as you gain more control during the days, so use it as a marker but avoid fretting about it and do as you normally would. Insulin resistance is higher in the mornings for many people. If you are really concerned, get up and go for a bit of a walk, or do a short exercise programme which will help. My morning 'commute' is still a work in progress (only done 2 so far!) but it does make a difference.

Hope that helps.

Thankyou for this, very helpful. Today I tested then ate about 5 minutes later so will see what effect that has. Usually I take my acid reflux meds and my asthma inhaler then get up , and have 2 cups of tea then eat about 30-45 mins after that as tablet needs 30 minutes to work. As walking is an issue with my achilles heel atm I think I will do one of my exercise programmes which may help. Does drinking water help in between a meal and a test? Thanks
