My HBIAC test every 6 months vary between 46 and 51 should the metaformin keep it low or do I need to do more?

Hello @David Forfar

The general advice about HbA1c is usually that it is better to get the lowest figure you can (as long as you are not risking repeated hypoglycaemia in the process).

Metformin is very unlikely to cause hypos, so you can relax as far as that is concerned. 🙂

Non-diabetic HbA1c would mostly be in the region of 31-42 or lower I think (5% - 6%).

I can’t quite remember what the cut-off for diagnosis is but I think it’s 48 (6.5%) or above.

Your HbA1c’s look to be in a good range, and should help you to avoid long-term complications.

Has your Dr or nurse said they would like them to be lower? What dietary changes have you tried to reduce your BGs?
