Hi I’m just new to the forum- but hoped you could maybe help with come advice. My GP asked me if I’d take part in a study taking Actos with my Metformin. I went home and googled it and discovered that there had been concerns about cancer links. I’m not sure what to do. Any advice. My GP did not say anything about any risk. Hope someone can help me. Marion

I’ve never heard of Actos I’m afraid.

If you are worried, I would ask your GP about it. Any official study would have needed to get ethical approval, so those involved in the study should have carefully considered any risk factors.

You can always withdraw from a study at any point too. Even if you have ‘officially’ signed up, and the study hasn’t started yet.

I’ve never heard of Actos so I had i quick google it’s also known as Pioglitazone, sorry I know nothing about it I just thought this might help others who know it by that name.

At face value, it's kind of weird - the Metformin + Pioglitazone combo has been around for years, with studies supporting approval in various jurisdictions. Why another trial now?

But anyway, you wouldn't get signed up to any kind of respectable trial without your "informed consent", which means you would have all the risk factors explained to you. Get them to explain, and reserve your decision until you've decided whether or not you're comfortable with it.
