Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi everyone, my first post here.
I have a question and hope I am posting this in te right place on the forums.

I have been type two for two years now, I was borderline for several years before that.

Recently I shave developed acne type spots in one armpit and on the same arm and also on my torso - upper abdomen. These are painfull mini cysts with 'heads', some times as large as a bean. Twice now my GP has prescribed a strong antibiotics (flucoxacillin 500mg was for one week), after this current course I am to start long term tetracycline.

I am diet and metformin controlled. My diet is good and I work constantly to improve it. I am overweight and struggle to lose weight. Exercise is a problem - I have severe arthritis in my left knee, but I walk constantly in my work and at home. I am an active 52 year old male.

Could this acne be caused by my diabetes? I can't find much on this on the web?

I love your advice/thoughts. Thanks everyone. David

Hi @blinddavey, welcome to the forum 🙂 What are your blood sugar levels like, generally? Do you have a blood glucose meter so you can test at home? Elevated blood sugar levels can encourage the sort of thing you describe - many people find themselves in a similar situation at diagnosis, as the higher levels encourage infection. If you don't have a meter, it would be worth getting one.

There's some information about diabetes and skin problems here:

Have you thought they could be ingrowing hairs, I have literally pulled about 20 out from my stomach & chest area yesterday.

They are some that have gone too deep under the skin now to get at.

I have been using apple cider vinegar on the affected areas using a cotton bud to swab the areas.

I've had bad acne on my neck after shaving aswell, & I have used apple cider vinegar on them too & they do appear to have gone down
quite a bit.
