Have started getting this since taking insulin, is this a side effect ?

I think it's probably just coincidence of timing. I've never suffered it in the five years since I was on insulin.

No, acid reflux is not a side effect of taking insulin, but it can be a side effect of diabetes
I have been on insulin for years, but a few months ago I was prescribed Omeprazole for acid reflux and an associated cough. This is the explanation given to me by my GP

We know that diabetes can affect the feet, eyes, and so on, but it can also affect the stomach.
It can have an affect on the nerves in the stomach so that the contents are slower to empty. This causes acid reflux which can affect the throat and bring on a cough.

The fact that you have acid reflux and now take insulin is a coincidence. They are both the result of poor blood sugar control, but are not directly related to each other

I am optimistic that if I make an effort to be careful about the food that I eat, both to control my blood sugars and reduce acid reflux, the situation will improve; and I also need to lose some weight, that must be helpful too
With this in mind I have started to take the advice in the reverse your diabetes books

I second all zuludog has said - when I was still thinkin I was T2 and my BGs were shocking - I had acid reflux and bloating for several years
It's completely stopped now I'm better controlled.
How are your BGs?
If no improvement - go and see your doc 🙂

Suffered for years but stopped almost overnight on diagnosis , put it down to vastly reducing bread consumption. Couple of things that helped me in the past , raise head level at night ( more pillows or block up bed legs slightly) also found that sleeping on left side helped as it elevates the entry to stomach

Thanks for the replies. My diet is pretty good but my bg is not but is improving. I am at present trying to get my insulin dosage sorted so once this is sorted it will help. Looks like gaviscon for me lol

I'm so glad this has been mentioned. I've suffered acid reflux for years. Never thought it could be a blood sugar issue. But since getting my BS under control, it's improved dramatically.
