Do any of you guys and gals suffer with any diabetes related aches and pains??

I've had painful hips for a couple of years now, and after various blood tests, MRI scans, Xrays, physio etc the consultant chappy seems to think that the pain is caused by immflamed ligaments which he think is related to my diabetes - he's seen a handful of patients with the same symptoms who are also diabetic. But.....he can't guarantee that that's what's causing the hip pain...

The reason I'm asking is because recently I've been getting more aches and pains all over my body and I wondered if it could be diabetes related??

I have aches and pains all the time, some of which may be down to side effects of diabetes but I also have Rheumatoid arthritis which complicates things. At one time I was having bad reactions to some of the medications I was on as well, so it's been hard to pin down all the various causes.

There are blood tests that can be done to establish some of the reasons you may be in pain. Have you had your calcium levels checked for instance? I'd go back to the doctor and ask.

I can't remember the last day I didn't have aches and pains somewhere, don't know if it's mostly down to diabetes but since diagnosis they seem to be worse. Others have pointed out that getting sugars under control when the body is used to them being high could be the cause. I consider a good day is one where I haven't taken any pain killers because the pain is bearable 😱

Doctor said it could be the statins and swapped them for different ones but made no real difference.

Mind you, I do seem to have a very low pain threshold - even the tiny lancet makes me wince very time I take my BG levels, never gets any easier.

Sorry to hear this Sarah. I know that 'frozen shoulder' is quite common among people with diabetes, I wonder if a similar condition exists for the hips? Are you on any medication that might be causing the aches and pains? A lot of people find it can be a side effect of taking statins.

The consultant told me that the MRI scans show that the actual bones in my hips are fine, no sign of arthritis....

I had some blood tests, but not sure what they checked for....I think I'm going to go back to my GP and see what he says

Thanks 😱)

Thanks for the reply 😱) The pains started when my bloods were high and they're worse now (my bloods are better controlled now, but not sure if that's the cause....)

Boooo if it is - my reward for better blood readings is having trouble walking and generally moving - great! lol

Funnily enough, I did have a bad shoulder before my painful hips....had physio and that sorted it out. The consultant did say it's similar to frozen shoulder but in my hips....

Not on any other medication. I try to avoid the painkillers as the only ones that work are Solphedine Max, which can cause addiction according to the packet - they also send me a bit doolally lol

I have other symptoms too so I'm definately going to pop back to my GP as friends and family have suggested all sorts of things it could be - Anaemia, Vitamin deficiency, Fibromyalgia....

hi sarah
sorry to hear you've been having aches and pains. I dont know what your life style if like, but would you consider doing a bit of swimming?? I know the weather right not is not very "inviting" but I find that swimming can help relax your muscles and you come out feeling much better. or maybe a gentle pilates class?.
hope you find something that works for you...
x

Sorry to hear you are in pain. Has anyone looked at a Vitamin D deficiency? I only suggest it because hubby has been in more pain than usual and found to be deficient in Vitamin D so has been given a supplement. I hope it is sorted and you feel better soon.

Same here, have pain in my hip had xray nothing there. Dr thought it was damage to the lateral muscle from hip to knee, the pain is easier but has now gone into the knee, which clicks sometimes.
Also have developed pain in my neck and shoulders, I am taking E vits to see if that helps.
Nothing has been said regarding diabetes. 😡

I get aches and pains all the time, some are due to the diabetes, some are due to the arthritis in the knee, with others I don't know what the cause is.

it is always worth getting any unexplained pain investigated, especially for our own peace of mind.
