Hi

Since diagnosis I have always used Accu-chek meters. Most of the time they have been decent and reliable.

A few years ago I was given a free upgrade to a Nano meter but had countless problems with it (new batteries at least once a week)

About 6 months ago I upgraded to the Accu-Chek mobile meter which was okay at first, now it's started doing the same as the Nano. I bought some batteries last week and was sent complimentary ones, both of which the machine has used. When I tried to test my blood this morning the E9 Replace batteries warning is on. Meaning I can't test :(

I was wondering if any of you guys had similar experience.

Hi Andy, I've always used Accu Chek too - was given an Aviva at diagnosis and it's always worked fine 🙂 However, I was also sent a Nano and had similar battery problems so simply couldn't trust it and don't use it. It's apparently a design fault - there is nothing wrong with the batteries! I know we have some mobile users here and haven't heard any bad reports about it so maybe you've just been unlucky with a duff unit?

p.s. have you tried removing the batteries and putting them back in? (I'm guessing you've already tried that though!)

p.p.s fine in GeneralMB 🙂)

I have the mobile one, not had it that long, but no problems so far - I have just bought an SD Codefree though (due to how cheap the test strips are) so have a back up plan, just in case...... 🙂

It's because I work in IT, I'm certain they have sent me a 'duff un' to see how long it takes before I ask for help 🙂

Good idea 🙂 - I need to buy a back up meter for when this one plays up. The lady at Accu-Chek said the replacement should be about 5 days :(

I got given the Accu Chek Mobile about 11 weeks ago when I started on insulin, still on the first set of batteries! It did moan about a faulty test strip cartridge the other night so had to change it and dispose of 30 unused tests but that's the only problem I've had with it.

I know a lot of people think it's a bit on the bulky side but I must say I like the "all inclusive" nature of it! Wish it could transfer the data using something other than IR though, who has an IR port these days!!!

Hi Robofski

Many thanks for the reply. Mines has done that too and sometimes after applying blood it says insufficient and moves on to the next test area. One night it did it about 5 times before i admitted defeat 🙂

I had a lot of probs with my meter with my pump to begin with, all sorts of blooming things, funnily enough not the battery! Even had a pot of duff strips. i wasn't impressed - it does a lot more than just a meter in 'Combo' with the pump.

They replaced the thing in the finish and that's been perfectly OK. (Said she with one hand on the keyboard and the other flat on the wooden (beech!) desk top ....)

I'm not sure if it's something I'm doing to kill the batteries, I switch it on, apply blood, check the reading and manually switch it off.

In Accu-Chek's defence I must say their customer service is fantastic and always has been. The lady I spoke to said she will send a replacement meter in the post today.

Were you asked to return the faulty meter Andy? I was asked to return my meter and batteries, but when I received the return envelope it said you weren't allowed to return batteries in it! :confused:🙄

Hi Trophywench I have been out and bought a replacement meter as a back up. Good job I did. Levels are 16.1 :(
 
I've been using an Accu-Chek Mobile for about 1.5 years. I've never had problems with the batteries running out quick. They tend to last me a few months and I always use the batteries that Accu-Chek send me.
 
Hi Trophywench - how long did you wait before asking for a replacement? Mines been playing up for months now but I'm not sure if it's on the blink or just the battery contacts need tweaking out again...starting to get annoyed at repeatedly having to faff around with batteries out/in & saving time/date data almost evety time I test... :(
 
My son has the Accu-chek Mobile, has had it for just over a year. It is still on the original batteries, though to be fair he hasn't used it much these past few months. Have had no issues with it whatsoever though, except once it said the cassette had expired, and we then found they expire 3 months after being started. Otherwise good, and agree that though bulky, the 'all inclusive' bit is excellent. No fussing with test strips when hypo, a really good meter.

Interestingly, I found the paperwork for it a month ago, having had it for a year, and found he had never registered it with Accu-chek. I did, not being sure whether they would accept it or not, but they wrote straight back saying he was due a free upgrade! So we accepted that as our GP refused to prescribe strips for 2 different meters, so his spare meters were really obsolete. This way, we have 2 Accu-chek mobiles so always a spare with prescription cassettes for them anyway. The free upgrade came with a USB cable. Not sure what to do with it though. Guess I could read the instruction leaflet........!
 
aviva expert

Can I add comments about my accu-check aviva expert. Requires new batteries at least every 6 weeks. Has now started asking for confirmation of date and format at least once a day. Mentioned it to the diabetic nurse today and she gave me a new meter.

I guess it will allow you to download the results and if your a geek like me you can graph them in Excel!
