Does anyone have this machine to test for Ketones ??? can you help as im struggling to know how can get BG result but dont understabd how to get Ketones result and my BG right now is 22.7

Hey yes. You just put in the purple keytone strip. No need to do anything other than that. The meter will know it is a test for keytones. That is if you have the keytone strips?

Do you actually have Ketone strips? They come in a packet of 10 and are in lilac foil. If so place one in the meter and test as normal. Be careful to read the patient information sheet that comes with the strips for normal/high levels. I cut the relevant bit out and keep it with the ketone strips...

If your blood ketone result is 0.0 mmol/L and your BG is 16.7 or higher, repeat both the ketone and blood glucose tests with new test strips. If the same message appears again or the result does not reflect how you feel, contact your HCP.

If your Blood ketone result is between 0.6 and 1.5 mmol/L and your BG result is 16.7 or higher, this may indicate development of a problem that could require medical assistance.

If your Blood Ketone result is higher than 1.5 mmol/L and your BG result is 16.7 or higher contact your HCP promptly for assistance or go straight to A&E. You may be at risk of developing ketoacidosis (DKA)

Thanks Guys Only have Blue ones think my Diabetes Nurese has forgot to put them in will i get them on Prescription at Dr on Monday

They are mega expensive Marier so probably not prescribed unless you specifically ask for them. ?19.99 for 10 to the NHs

Yes, my GP took some persuading, preferring to issue the pee sticks. But I argues that I would use them very rarely, so with the pee sticks at ?5 for 50, I'd probably throw them away after using 5 (you have to chcuk them after 6 months of opening), so possibly ?20 over 2 years, whereas with the blood strips, which are individually wrapped and last 2 years, the cost would be...?20 over 2 years, but with much greater accuracy when needed! 🙂

I was given the Abbott FreeStyle Optium on my DAFNE course, and the specialist nurse doing the training (who is infact my specialist nurse) has written a letter to my GP requesting all the bits needed for it, including the keytone strips be added to my prescription.

I don't care what the NHS say, it's a life long condition and i'm not paying out for something that is to be provided by the NHS to keep me alive and well.
