Grrrrr.

Last night had to fend for myself so I frequented the chip van.

Had small chips and large fish, was tasty and didn't feel bloated which was good.

I had half walked home which was a good half hour stroll, so should have taken that into account but I didn't!

I was below 5 when I got home, so I had my dinner then injected after so I wouldn't go low (I think you know whats coming) Not too long later I felt sweats and generally not too great tested and was below 3, so munched the nearest platoon of jelly babies, and had some lucozade. tested about 3 times in the next hour and things where heading in the right direction, phew.

Tested at 10:30 for my levemir and was okay at 7's, then at midnight I was nearly 20 :( not happy haven't been there for a long time. I took a correction, and tried to sleep. I woke after a rubbish night sleep to 13, so not so bad I guess.

All okay now but just annoyed with myself.

Last time I had chips I was fine didn't need to split the dose, but I guess that is what I should have done.

Does everyone here split a dose for fish & chips, I know it's been discussed a hundred times, sorry.

Hope all well, salad for tea tonight!

Cheers

Rossi

The last few times I have not split the dose, but both times it was apparent I probably would of benefited from it...........

Went low, then high later..........:(..........

But sometimes the blood readings tell a different story...............

Its a constant battle.............

I had a full 9 inch pizza to myself last week, half before eating, half after, done the job nicely.........

I always inject before fish and chips, as I only eat them for evening meal, after an active day, running, cycling etc, and don't want to risk going low by having dose (part or whole) after eating. For me, that works OK, as I'm always within range by bed time.

However, the last couple of times I've eaten fish & chips from our local shop, due to partner being away and wanting a treat, I've had calamari and chips, which is even easier, blood sugar wise, as calamari is less fatty than battered fish.

On a pump (and I know you aren't Rossi so not sure how this could be done) lots of us bolus for the full amount upfront. Then some put on an increased temp basal immediately or some wait a couple of hours like we did the other night and put on an increased basal then.

You should experiement (more chips) and if you count carbs, then count the fat as a carb as well (odd I know but the amount of fat is what makes the levels just go sky high).

You could do the full dose as you obviously needed it as you were 5 and 7 but then you may need to do another injection a few hours later before the spike.
