Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
hello, i'm Will i was diagnosed with type 1 6 months ago. Been to see my consultant last week who is very happy that i seem to have the diabetes under control and have not had any hypos at all and my bg readings are all good.
Last year before i was diagnosed i paid for an hgv course (?2.500) but obviously now things have changed and i cant take the course, the DVLA said its more or less impossible because of my condition and recently revoked my c1/c1e class also my license is only a 3 year reviewable one meaning i can only drive a car now not the 7.5 ton/trailer licence. Wouldn't you know it the company i booked the course with are practically refusing to refund the money even though they have received a letter from my consultant saying i'm unable to take the course. PLEASE can anyone advise me?

Welcome to the forums, Will, but sorry about the circumstances.

Getting money back from HGV training course which you can not now take sounds like a consumer rights issue, so worth talking to appropraite dept in your local council for advice. Did you pay for the whole course upfront, or just paid a deposit?

Diabetes UK careline might also be able to help, when it re-opens on Monday - see http://www.diabetes.org.uk/How_we_help/Talk-to-someone/

Apart from that, there are many lines of work open to you, but I do understand the frustration, as my diagnosis meant the end of professional SCUBA diving, driving minibuses and vans, working in Antarctica, further service in Armed Forces etc. Still, I have found other interesting and enjoyable jobs to do.

Type 1's can hold HGV licences so look further into that if I were you.
The law has changed.

Possibly 6 months BG record isn't enough to apply yet, Sue? - no - you need a year.

Re money back - ring Trading Standards.

Yes I realised that, but op was told it was almost impossible to get a licence. His mission is to get one 🙂
