I've just realised you're buying 330ml cans - you know you don’t need a whole one for a hypo, don't you? That's why we buy the 150ml ones because they are just the right size, if you aren’t thinking very clearly then no need to measure it out just drink the whole thing. You can get the 150ml ones in boxes of 12 in Tesco too. Apologies if you already knew this - just checking 🙂
Your not alone, I had a hypo last a few hours a few years ago at the worst possible time (my partner's grans funeral) I had to eat a truck load of JB's as that's all I had with me, never felt so guilty in my life! xx
I usually use glucose tablets but if really low then...
Dr. Oetker Liquid Glucose 140g about £2.00 from Ocado (other suppliers available)
...that you can squeeze out and spread around your mouth... tongue, gums, cheeks and can quickly be absorbed from there rather than waiting for stomach/digestion. Lucozade for some extra support
if I was hypo the second time I would have used a faster acting liquid carb if I had one available (lucozade or juice not jelly babies or other sweets) to bring it up and had a snack straight after,
If it was a meal time would you have your faster acting liquid carb and your meal instead of the snack and if so would you still take insulin for your meal?
If I was low at a meal then yes I’d have a glass of juice or whatever then my meal. I wouldn’t take insulin until my blood sugar was safe, so probably after the meal, unless I’d pre bolused already.
If you were hypo the second time and you use a faster acting liquid carb and a snack straight after but you had a meal straight after instead of the snack would you take insulin for the meal at this point or eat your meal first then take insulin after? If you leave the insulin until after how long would it be until you tested and got bolus advice?

I'm glad I'm not alone having these prolonged hypos - I've decided I'm not having any more of those lol. I bet after that and only having jbs with you you made it your mission to always make sure you have your Lift tablets with you xx

What feels right for me is for a
Hypo before a meal
Treat the hypo with 15g of fast acting carbs wait 15 minutes and repeat until back to a normal level ie above 4mmol
Eat meal
Inject for the carbs in the meal straight after eating
Hypo when meal isn't due
Treat the hypo with 15g of fast acting carbs wait 15 minutes and repeat until back to a normal level ie above 4mmol
Eat 10 - 15g of follow up carbs
Don't inject
