Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Can I just have a small moan, when I was diagnosed with Type 2,( 2004) I was not over weight greatly, and I probably had type 2 back in 1998 I weighed all of 8 stone. Then, because of this none weight problem, diabetes was the last thing on GP's mind, so I suffered in silence until I could take what was happening no more. I had all the glucose tests and bloods done and within a week I was on a cocktail of drugs, including having been told I now had slight kidney damage because of the diabetes being of late diagnosis. There are exceptions to the rule, I had gallstones in my middle 20's and that went undetected for 6 years and I was in agony at times, was diagnosed as having inflamation of the oesophagus. Totally the opposite of what I really had, and after 6 years I ended up with a duodenal ulcer, because of the stress of the pain I was going through plus I had just had 2 children too. So at the young age of 31 my gall bladder was removed. I also have slight scolliosis of my lower spine, apparently I was born with it, did not know of it until 2004 by then I was 54 years of age. Life for me as been quite tough, but there are as I said exceptions to the rule, My other point of this post is I have also two forms of arthritis Psoriatic and Oestio sorry useless speller. And my walking days are over virtually, but after all I have said here, it is only a small moan on the whole, even though I live in pain 24/7 I am happy to be alive and not sad. Please folks don't believe every type 2 person is obese, I might be now, but then my exercise is limited, but believe me I am still on a strict diet, because of high cholestral and high blood pressure all inherrited. So Iam led to believe.

Please don't be offened by my post it isn't meant to do that, just my small moan and I am not good at moaning 😉

Hi

I'm so sorry for all the pain you have gone through. You are perfectly correct and not all people with type 2 diabetes are overweight and lots who start slim become obese. My sister in law's father has been type 2 for a number of years and he is very healthy and slim. He is still diet controlled.

On the flip side I am morbidly obese and need to lose about 8 stone to get to an ok weight. It does not stop me doing normal things. However I am not that healthy, my asthma is not good and due to that I can't walk for miles except around the shops. However I do not have diabetes, 1 or 2 or any other. The GP the other day said to me 'when you get diabetes'. Well he picked the wrong person. I said why and he said because of your weight. I told him that because I am overweight I am at more risk that your slimmer person but unless I have the propensity in my body or the trigger then I will never get type 2. I may but I may not. He categorically stated that I will and would not be swayed. I know the risks, I know I'm fat and I know what diabetes can do, believe I try losing weight every day and have done for years.

You moan away, everyone is entitled to, I moan when I need to as well.

Hey Maureen, you moan away! Actually, you sound like a very brave and positive person, despite the problems you have had to deal with. And no, not all Type 2's conform to the stereotype and the doctors should have recognised that the symptoms you were experiencing were indicative of diabetes. It's dispiriting to hear of how limited the health profession's knowledge seems to be in so many cases.

Hello and Welcome to the forum Ragdoll , you can moan as much as you want here !!! you are among friends here , we all have days when we feel down and want to have a moan , feel free , there is always someone willing to listen or sometimes join in lol ... im always moaning and everyone puts up with me god bless them 🙂🙂

Hi Ragdoll, have a moan. It helps to get things out of the system and off your chest.

I had to see the nurse at my GPs surgery this week, and she was asking all kinds of questions. When I told her my father and an uncle were type 2 she said I couldn't avoid it, it was in my make up.

Here you are among friends and weather we are an ideal weight or over or under, we all understand the trials and tribulations of diabetes. Come back often to see what others have to say, and yo u will feel better soon.

Many thanks for allowing my moan, it is good to get it off my chest.
Forgot to mention, I am on Metformin and Lantus Insulin, and with the Lantus I have never looked back. I was on Humilin I at first, 2 1/2 years ago, but when I moved to Wales last year. My insulin was changed, as the Humilin I was not working to well for me. Can honestly say the Lantus is far better at controlling my sugar levels along side the diet I am on, NO SUGAR, VERY LOW FAT AND CARBS, gets a little boring sometimes, but I know the consiquences if I don't. :eek

May I just say it is nice to be amongst friends, but I am very lucky in my daughters and my grandchildren, my girls grew up around friends who were diabetic and they have a very good understanding of mine and other folks health issues.

It is so good to be amongst you all, the short time I have been here, I have found you a grand bunch of folks. I am so lucky!!! 🙂

I found this too. There are some very nice people working on these forums and it does indeed take time to read and reply to our post.

Thanks to all the kind posters.
