A silly question

I have a silly question
I was told to book a blood test at the surgery to check my levels.
I was diagnosed in January after a fasting test. The next test was during march but I don't remember if it was fasting or not.
When levels are checked by a blood test should it be a fasting test or just a blood test.
The receptionist was more confused than I was. (I have that effect on people)😉.
Can anyone tell me which test to book at the surgery please 🙂

Do they want you to have an HbA1c test Janine? It does sound like it. If so, then you don't have to fast. 🙂 This tests your levels over the previous 6-12 weeks, rather than a fingerprick test which is just a 'snapshot' of what your level is at that very moment 🙂

I had to ask last month, and yes, the fasting ones are for cholesterol and fasting glucose, so I was told to get those two at the same time and then only need an ordinary tests for HbA1c.

Cholesterol doesn't even need to be fasting UNLESS it's a 'Full Lipid Panel' where they measure your Total Chol, your HDL and your Trigs, and thereby calculate your LDL. If it's just Total Chol or Total Chol and HDL - not fasting ......

The only silly question - is usually the one we forgot to ask !

I would get the receptionist to check with your GP as to what specific test is required and only book a test when you know, unless you like giving blood🙄
