Got my results last week via receptionist who would not put me through to my diabetic nurse.
She told me blood sugars came back high, cholesterol was high and everything else was normal.
Went in to discuss results with doctor this morning, blood sugars were indeed high but cholesterol ratio was fine, blood test for kidneys was fine but urine test for kidneys showed up slight changes from last time.
So i went in worrying about sugars and cholesterol and came out worrying about kidneys. She(the receptionist) never ever mentioned about urine test last week.
Doctor says kidneys are working fine but these subtle little changes could be worrying down the line if they continue and i don't change my diet.
Anyone got any idea what sort of things the urine would show up that the bloods would not.
Is this the start of my kidneys failing or what?

Daft doctor if he didn;t tell you what you need to flippin change! We can't second guess what the heck he means any more than you can!

Did he seriously not say you need to cut down on, or limit, anything?

If not - then you need to ask him.

One of the things is protein in the urine. When asked for a wee test in hospital I was told it was to make sure there is no protein in the urine. Please try to get back to nurse or doctor to put your own mind at rest.

A receptionist is not allowed to give results to a patient unless a GP has marked them as ok and the receptionist is only allowed to say results are ok.

Your bloods may have shown the changes in ur kidneys, U&Es are routine checks we do for kidney function

Seeing my diabetic nurse next week so will ask all the questions there

So - what dietary changes does one make to eliminate protein in wee, which I always thought was what usually showed you had a urine infection?

Hi. I would suggest signing-up to seeing your blood test results on line. That way you can spend time looking at things that are marginal and Googling that info to learn more before you see the Doc.

Not all surgeries have online access to results.

If based in Scotland we have access to our records on my diabetes my way for diabetes only mind.

Only if you register with them and it doesn't reflect urine tests.

Normally I take my blood test at the eye surgery hospital and I can gent the results as a PDF file downoladable with a one time username and password they give me the day of the blood exam.
Unfortunately this doesn't work for x-rays and I have to go to the receptionist, but they give me a sealed envelope with a CD or the x-yay image inside.
Anyway I was always handed the exam results either in a sealed envelop or the folded sheet of paper - never heard that a receptionist could read them.

Not only are ours not available on line yet, but when I asked for a print out, the receptionist told me the Diabetic Nurse ( with whom I had just been discussing said results) couldn't authorise it, and they'd have to ask the doctor! Went back next day, by which time they said they'd have asked GP, and morning receptionist looked a bit blank, and said, 'Huh? Nurse could have authorised them!' So a wasted second trip to the surgery, good job it's only just down the road. Next time I'll just get the nurse to dictate them to me at the appointment, and I'll scribble them down. ( always assuming our surgery still won't have got round to letting you look them up online - I'm sure the deadline for when all surgeries were supposed to do this has long passed)

We've been able to do repeats for a couple of years, with the promise of more things being rolled out, but nothing else has been added yet!

Not all surgeries have online access to results.
They are supposed to have had this in place since March last year. Contact england.patient-online@nhs.net (that is if you are in England and possibly Wales - not sure about Scotland or Ireland), and inform them of your surgeries name and address and contact number and they will have a word with them possibly to help them with any problems they may be having putting this information online.

Been able to get results online at my surgery for a while now I've just chosen not to sign up to it OH has as we go to same surgery and seems to like it. I'd hate for my receptionist to give out results she can't even give out a smile
