Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
To give a bit of backgroud I am Type 1 and I am a breastfeeding mum. LO is 9 months old so just morning and night now. I have had really good control for a long time now with my morning never higher than 5.6. For the last 2 weeks or so I am consistently waking at 6.8 and above (which I know is not huge). I am still going to be around the 5.8 mark so I do not know what has happened to my control. I have upped my lantus now by a total of 4 units (over the last 2 weeks) but am concerned this is making me a little lower during the day than I would like - hypos! What could be causing this? Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions? All help appreciated thanks 🙂

Hi, welcome to the forum 🙂 I'm not sure about the complexities of being a breastfeeding mum, which may be an influencing factor - hopefully some of our mums will be able to help! Have you thought abut splitting your lantus into two doses so that you can give less for during the day when you are more active?

I think I'd be inclined to agree, breast feeding will have an effect. My big boy is alomst 25 now and I wasn't diagnosed till 2006, so am not sure the best way forward for you. there are other mums who will be better placed to help.
