Like many on here I suffer badly with delayed spikes when mixing high fat & carbs in a meal.

A couple of questions. What sorts of fats do this... Is it all? Unsaturated, saturated etc etc..

& At what levels of fat and carbs do you then consider a split dose?

After eating my lunch I realised id eaten a lot of fat, with a medium amount of carbs .

50 g of carbs and about 35 - 40 g fat, however 80 - 90 % of those fats are unsaturated. Ie I had some nuts and some vegetable crisps, a sandwich.

Just wondered..

Its something I have never thought of either really..........

I would just assume large amounts of cheese or fried items would warrant a split dose.....

Not done it in a while though......

I don't think the type of fat makes any difference to how it might affect your blood sugar levels. I rarely eat high fat meals so I haven't built up much of a personal experience 'database' of how best to tackle it. On the rare occasions that I have something like pizza, I actually find my levels stay extremely stable and don't really experience a late spike - could be due to the fact that I'm weird and still have some pancreatic function (as evidenced by the fact I was able to stop using lantus last April after being diagnosed 4 years).

Sorry! Not much help! 🙄

Most the time I do eat low fat , medium carb meals lots of veg etc. But I do love the occasional takeaway etc!

Would just be interesting to know others takes on it.

Out of interest on this, Bloods pre meal, 6.9, 5.9 at 2 hours, 10.4!! at 3 hours.

On top of what I had yesterday as extra were the veg crisps and yesterday was ok.

Id guess my barrier is the difference in numbers the crisps made..!

I did split doses for most of my evening meals before I got the pump. For a 50g carb meal I would have 3 units up front a 1 about an hour later
If there was more fat than usual I would do 2 and 2 an hour later
For more protein and fat I would do 3 and then another 1 after 2 hours and maybe a further correction before bed.
Took me ages to work this out but got sick of correcting before bed or waking up to awful nos.
Hope this helps.
